1 Airworthiness Directive AD No.: Issued: 27 April 2016 EASA AD No.: Note: This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is issued by EASA, acting in accordance with Regulation (EC) 216/2008 on behalf of the European Union, its Member States and of the European third countries that participate in the activities of EASA under Article 66 of that Regulation.. This AD is issued in accordance with Regulation (EU) 748/2012, Part 21.A.3B. In accordance with Regulation (EU) 1321/2014 Annex I, Part M.A.301, the continuing airworthiness of an aircraft shall be ensured by accomplishing any applicable ADs. Consequently, no person may operate an aircraft to which an AD applies, except in accordance with the requirements of that AD, unless otherwise specified by the Agency [Regulation (EU) 1321/2014 Annex I, Part M.A.303] or agreed with the Authority of the State of Registry [Regulation (EC) 216/2008, Article 14(4) exemption]. Design Approval Holder s Name: AIRBUS Type/Model designation(s): A330 and A340 aeroplanes Effective Date: 11 May 2016 TCDS Numbers: EASA.A.004 and EASA.A.015 Foreign AD: Not applicable Supersedure: None ATA 57 Wings Inboard Flap Parts Identification / Inspection Manufacturer(s): Airbus (formerly Airbus Industrie) Applicability: Airbus A , A , A , A , A , A F, A F, A , A , A , A , A , A , A , A and A aeroplanes, all manufacturer serial numbers (MSN), Airbus A , A , A and A aeroplanes, all MSN. Reason: Following an Airbus quality control review on the final assembly line, it was discovered that nonconforming aluminium alloy was used to manufacture several structural parts on the inboard flap. This condition, if not detected and corrected, could reduce the structural integrity of the aeroplane. To address this potential unsafe condition, Airbus issued Service Bulletin (SB) A and SB A to provide instructions to identify and inspect the potentially affected parts. For the reasons described above, this AD requires identification of the potentially affected inboard flap parts, a one-time Special Detailed Inspection (SDI) to identify which material they are made of and, depending on findings, replacement with serviceable parts. 2 Required Action(s) and Compliance Time(s): Required as indicated, unless accomplished previously: Note 1: For the purpose of this AD, the affected inboard flaps are listed by serial number (s/n) in Appendix 1 of this AD. (1) Within 24 months after the effective date of this AD, inspect each left hand (LH) and right hand (RH) inboard flap to identify the s/n. A review of aeroplane delivery and/or maintenance records is acceptable in lieu of inspecting the inboard flaps, provided those records can be relied upon for that purpose and the s/n of the affected parts can be positively identified from that review. Note 2: Airbus SB A and Airbus SB A list the s/n of potentially affected LH and RH inboard flaps and the corresponding aeroplane MSN on which these parts were installed during production. That MSN list is for information only, as it cannot be excluded that a potentially affected inboard flap has been removed from an aeroplane and later re-installed on another aeroplane. (2) For each inboard flap, identified as required by paragraph (1) of this AD and having a s/n as listed in Appendix 1 of this AD, within 6 years after the effective date of this AD, or within 12 years after the date of the flap first, as defined in Appendix 1 of this AD, whichever occurs first, accomplish a SDI in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A , or SB A , as applicable. (3) If, during the SDI as required by paragraph (2) of this AD, a part manufactured from nonconforming material is detected, within 30 days after the SDI as required by paragraph (2) of this AD, contact Airbus for approved replacement instructions and, within the compliance time(s) specified in those instructions, accomplish the replacement accordingly. (4) From the effective date of this AD, it is allowed to install on any aeroplane an inboard flap, provided the part is a serviceable part as defined in Note 3 of this AD. Note 3: For the purpose of this AD, a serviceable inboard flap is a part that is not listed by s/n in Appendix 1 of this AD, or has a s/n listed in Appendix 1 of this AD but it has passed an SDI in accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A , or SB A , as applicable.
