1 PILOT BRIEFING GENEVA RFE 2018

2 Introduction The aim of this pilot briefing for the RFE is to inform pilots about local procedures and to prepare them for a lot of traffic. To be able to achieve a good traffic flow, we need to count on your full cooperation. If you have any questions about this briefing, don t hesitate to ask on the forum (ch.forum.ivao.aero) or send a mail to ch-ec@ivao.aero. General Rules Radio Communication When changing to another frequency, wait at least for 5 seconds to be sure you don t interrupt any readback. Don t interrupt any transmission. If this happens, the controller will indicate which station shall communicate first. Keep your communications as clear and as short as possible. You may be instructed to monitor or standby a frequency. Switch to this frequency and don t say anything until the controllers calls you. Do we speak french in Geneva? French may be used as long as the pilot and the controller are able to communicate in French. To avoid unnecessary transmissions check the atis for the remark ENGLISH ONLY

3 Pilots Comply with ATC instructions, unless the safety of your aircraft is compromised. Execute ATC instructions as soon as possible after the readback. Listen well to transmissions from controllers, any SAY AGAIN will last in a delay of instructions. Be sure to know your aircraft and be able to fly it! If instructed to turn, turn immediately and readback (text or voice) once you have initiated the turn. To ensure an efficient transfer to the next frequency, make sure to know and prepare the next frequency you have to contact on your radio. The runway is vacate if you are BEHIND the holdingpoint.

6 Departing traffic Times The time stated in the booking system represents the ESTIMATED OFF BLOCK TIME (EOBT). This must be stated in the flightplan under departure time. This is the time when the PUSHBACK or START UP is expected to happen. A tolerance window of +/- 5 minutes has to be respected. Please note that all times are in UTC, including in the booking system! UTC=LOCAL TIME 2 HOURS (Example: UTC: 10:00 = LOCAL TIME: 12:00) Connecting to the network It is essential that you connect yourself at least 20 minutes before your EOBT at your assigned gate. Do NOT contact DELIVERY for clearance earlier then 10 minutes before your EOBT. Inform the ATC as soon as possible if you are not able to comply with you EOBT. Expect delay. Clearance On initial contact with DELIVERY, please give the following details: Callsign Aircraft Stand/Gate ATIS Information Phraseology Example: SWR69KC LSGG_DEL Geneva Delivery Bonjour, Swiss 69 Kilo Charlie, Airbus A320 at Gate A5 with information I, ready to copy the IFR clearance to Zurich Swiss 69 Kilo Charlie, Geneva Delivery Bonjour, cleared to Zurich, KONIL4 Juliett departure, Runway 23, squawk 4201, INITIAL CLIMB FL90 Please note that the INITIAL CLIMB IS ALWAYS FL90 even if DELIVERY does not mention it. NEVER climb above FL90 unless instructed to do so. Once you ve readback your clearance, and the controller tells you readback correct, stay on DELIVERY, set your squawk, and ask for pushback/start-up only if you are ready and within your EOBT +/- 5 Minutes Pushback / Start-up Once you ve requested pushback and/or start-up, the Delivery controller will hand you over to Apron on The apron controller will then give you the clearance including facing. Before you ask for startup and/or pushback make sure your aircraft is FULLY ready for engine startup.

7 Taxi Be sure to have the ground charts with you in order to taxi along the correct taxiways. There is a high risk of collision/mess if a wrong taxiway is used. If you are not sure which taxiways to use, ask ATC to give you progressive taxi instructions. If your performance allows, you may request intersection E or B (Remaining RWY: 2750m from E or 2600m B) for take-off. Special taxiways at Geneva are the LINK taxiways; please listen carefully to the controller when receiving taxi clearance. Below you can see these different LINKS in yellow: Line-up and Take-off For line-up and take-off clearance, contact Tower on MHz. Do only contact Tower when advised to do so by Apron and do NOT line-up or take-off without any clearance.

8 Departure After take-off, Tower controller will hand you over to GENEVA DEPARTURE on After departure, do NOT climb above the initial climb clearance (FL90) unless instructed to do so! Your initial contact with Departure should only contain your callsign and the passing altitude/level. SWR69KC Geneva Departure Bonjour, SWR69KC 2000ft climbing FL90. LSGG_DEP Swiss 69 Kilo Charlie, Geneva Departure Bonjour, Identified, climb to FL 150. When passing 7000ft turn left direct to DEPUL. SWR69KC Climb FL 150 when passing 7000ft direct to DEPUL, SWR69KC Swiss Radar When leaving the sector of departure, you will be sent to the lower Swiss Radar on , later then to the high sector Swiss Radar on

9 Arriving traffic First contact with Geneva On initial contact with Geneva Arrival on , you should already be cleared for a STAR. If not, enter the hold over your last FIX at clearance limit as published on the charts and let the controller know about it. The first call to Arrival should state the following details: Callsign Current level Cleared level from last ATC position Aircraft ATIS Information The Arrival controller will then guide you to the active runway using STAR or Vectors. You may need to fly direct to any waypoint. If you get a shortcut, double check your descend path! Be prepared for speed restrictions! Open STAR To ensure a better traffic flow all stars are open stars. All stars END on downwind, MAINTAIN DOWNWIND HEADING when reaching GG512/514/503/502, DO NOT TURN TO BASE BY YOURSELF.

10 Contact Final As soon as you are approaching the downwind, Arrival will hand you over to Geneva Final on The Final controller will give you the BASE TURN and the final turn to the ILS. When contacting Final, you should state your callsign only! Phraseology Example: EZS26LC LSGG_F_APP EZS26LC LSGG_F_APP EZS26LC FINAL BONJOUR, TOPSWISS26LC TOPSWISS26LC Final Bonjour, turn right Heading 320 for BASE turning right heading 320 TOPSWISS26LC TOPSWISS26LC turn right heading 030 descend to 6000ft, cleared ILS Approach RWY 05 report established on the localizer turn right heading 030 descend to 6000ft, cleared ILS Approach RWY 05, WILCO When cleared for the ILS approach, always report established, Final will then ask you to contact Tower on Tower On initial contact, Tower might only say Hello. This is nothing to worry about, just continue your approach. In case of a go around, Tower will tell you to execute missed approach procedure as published and will hand you over to Arrival. Be sure you are ready for a go around at any time during the approach! Vacating the runway Depending on the runway in use, there are preferred taxiways for vacating the runway. When runway 23 is in service, try to vacate via D, or latest at E. When runway 05 is in service, try to vacate via C, latest at B. Contacting Apron As soon as you vacated the runway, Tower will advise you to contact Apron on As soon as you are on Apron frequency, your initial contact should only contain: Callsign Taxiway you vacated on Phraseology Example: EZS26LC LSGG_A_GND Geneva Apron Bonjour, TOPSWISS23LC, vacated via D TOPSWISS26LC Apron Bonjour, taxi via OUTER, Link 3, and INNER to stand 2

11 Gates will be assigned by the Apron Controller. In case you are departing gate is not the same gate as your arrival gate, ask the controller to be parked at the reserved stand. Parking and disconnecting When you are on blocks, do not report anything, just leave the frequency! Disconnect latest 10 minutes after you have arrived at your parking position. If you continue your flight, disconnect, recheck your gate for departure and repeat the procedure written in the Departure sequence above. Enjoy the event!
