3 Jump Operations Days of Operation Thursday-Sunday and Holiday Mondays 09:00-Sunset Operations will be NOTAM ed

4 Type of Operations 1. Tandem Jumps for beginners only with qualified Instructors 2. All other jumpers with a class C license or Better (A-D with D being the Highest) 3. There will not be any inexperienced jumpers!

5 What is a Class C License 1. completed 200 jumps, including with at least 60 minutes of controlled free fall time 2. landed within two meters of target center on 25 jumps 3. aerial performance requirements, either: (a) during free fall, perform in sequence within 18 seconds-a back loop, front loop, left 360-degree turn, right 360-degree turn, right barrel roll and left barrel roll (b) completed at least two points on an 8-way or larger random skydive

7 Jump Plane Flight Procedures 1. Departs RWY 24 and climbs westbound to 5,000 approximately feet 2. Climbs Eastbound to approximately 9,000 feet 3. Continues climb circling back westbound to 13,000 feet 4. Time to climb minutes 5. Jumpers away until all on the ground 6-8 minutes. 6. Plane typically turns out right and circles back for a straight in landing on RWY Plane typically lands before jumpers-about 3 minutes

8 Jump Operations 1. Jump zone is typically over the airport or west of the airport and north of the 76 freeway 2. Free fall from 13,000 feet to as low as 3,000 per protocol. Tandems open at 5, Chutes open and fly under canopy east along or north of the riverbed, then follow the bike path to the landing zone (see diagram)

14 Tsunami Radio Calls 1. SOCAL will be in contact with the dive plane during all ops a. Call Sign N750DZ b. A distinct squawk code will be assigned to the jump plane eventually with call sign Tsunami One 2. Calls will be made by the dive plane on CTAF during all phases of flight and will announce 2 minutes to jumpers away and jumpers away

15 Recommended Approach Procedures For KOKB VFR Flights a. Check NOTAMS- FAR b. Use Radar Services(flight following) c. Tune and Monitor CTAF early at a minimum d. Make your initial call to CTAF early and ask if jump operations planned for time of arrival e. Per the Pink Panther, When You Least Expect It, Expect It and keep your eye s outside!

16 Recommended Approach Procedures For KOKB Instrument Training Flights a. All of the above with extra vigilance. The approach course fly's directly through the drop zone and landing zone b. Always use radar services for Instrument approach practice into KOKB. SOCAL is our friend c. Safety Pilots need to be IFR current if you are flying under the hood on an IFR flight plan even in VMC conditions d. Missed approach procedures may conflict with the jump zone and may cross paths with the jump plane on departure or landing

17 Approach Procedures For KOKB Actual IMC Conditions 1. You will always be using Radar services and on an Instrument flight plan 2. No jump operations when the airfield is covered 3. *If the landing zone is not obscured, the jump plane may depart RWY 06* and jump operations may be underway

18 Landing Pattern for KOKB 1. As noted on the diagram, fly the full pattern for noise abatement and to help stay clear of jump operations 2. Fly inbound from the river to the water tower then a 45 to the down wind 3. No touch and go operations are allowed at Oceanside airport

19 Summary Check NOTAMS Pre-Flight Assume jumpers are present on all flights Monitor CTAF Early and call Early if unsure You can speak with Tsunami ops on CTAF Fly with Big Brother (SOCAL) Eyes outside where they are supposed to be Plan approach and landing during the jump planes climb-out or between jumps

20 Summary Closely follow KOKB Landing and Departure Procedures Approach and Departure after jumpers are in the air is generally not advised Do not over-fly the airfield when sight seeing Look Outside, Aviate, Look Outside, Navigate, Look Outside, Communicate, Look Outside

21 Summary The Tsunami pilots and owner are all very professional and have gone to great lengths to assure safe co-existence with the aircraft traffic at the airport. Successful business development at KOKB will encourage the town of Oceanside to value the airport more highly and help support continued improvement at the airfield. All pilots are encouraged to stop at Tsunami and say hello. $25 buys you a thrill ride in the jump plane. 13,000 to sea level in 3 minutes. Better than Magic Mountain.
