Apartheid Museum Tour (R675 pp) The Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid. Starting in 1948, the white elected National Party government implemented the policy of apartheid which turned 20 million people into second class citizens, damning them to a life of servitude, humiliation and abuse. Their liberation in 1994 with the election of Nelson Mandela, the prisoner who became president, is a climax in the saga of a nation s resistance, courage and fortitude. The museum is a superb example of design, space and landscape offering the international community a unique South African experience. The exhibits have been assembled and organised by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians and designers. It include provocative film footage, photographs, text panels and artefacts illustrating the events and human stories that are part of the epic saga, known as apartheid. A series of 22 individual exhibition areas takes the visitor through a dramatic emotional journey that tells a story of a statesanctioned system based on racial discrimination and the struggle of the majority to overthrow this tyranny.

Pretoria City Tour (R890 pp) Enjoy a tour of the administrative capital of South Africa. Pretoria / Tshwane lie about 50 km north of Johannesburg. The population is just under a million and consists mainly of government officials and other related government personnel. In Pretoria, life goes at a much slower pace than in the ever-busy Johannesburg and it is quite easy for the visitor to find his or her way through the city, which is laid out like a chess board. Pretoria lies 1367 m above sea level, which makes it about 400 m lower than Johannesburg. It is surrounded by protecting mountains and is home to the magnificent Union Buildings. Pretoria is home to many fascinating museums and monuments. As the capital of the country for over 100 years it is strewn with many official buildings and memorials dating back to the early 1900 s. The majestic Voortrekker Monument is situated south of Pretoria in a nature reserve. It is a unique Monument which commemorates the Pioneer history of Southern Africa and the history of the Afrikaner.

5 Today it is the most visited heritage site of its kind in Gauteng and one of the top ten cultural historical visitor attractions in the country. This Monument also manages the Heritage Foundation and various other monuments and cultural historical sites country-wide. Kruger House is the historical Pretoria residence of the Boer leader and President of the first South African Republic, Paul Kruger. It was built in 1884 by architect Tom Claridge and builder Charles Clark. Milk was used, instead of water, for mixing the cement from which the house was constructed, as the cement available was of poor quality. Richly lined with both Jacarandas and Oak trees, Cullinan s main street (Oak Avenue) is a living museum and favourite destination amongst visitors. Man s relationship with elephants in Africa is a colourful and fascinating story, dating back as far as 218BC where elephants were captured and trained by the Carthaginians and used as vehicles of war With their defeat the tradition of working elephants all but died out until the early 20th Century when King Leopold of the Belgian Congo set out to realize his dream of training the African Elephant.

8 An elephant training school was set up in Garamba, in the heart of the Congo and for a while thrived. Today the camp still exists but the ravages of war and unrest leaves only 4 elephants as a legacy to this ancient tradition of the past. In 2002 the Pilanesberg Elephant-Back Safari opened in South Africa bringing with them 5 special elephants: Chikwenya, Sapi, Michael, Mana and Sharu and their handlers. The translocation operation was a mammoth task and whilst traumatic at the time, has been a great success ever since. The elephants have settled well into their new home on South African soil and visitors to Pilanesberg and Sun City are now able to witness this wonderful interaction.
