1 Eastern & Southern Africa Stomping grounds of wildebeest, hangout of gorillas, pride lands of lions Okavango Delta, Botswana - Johanna Anna Pfeifer Gorilla respect Be awed by these humble giants Mountain gorillas are a critically endangered species, so need extra protection. Trekking permits to see them are carefully monitored and every care is taken to ensure the few bands of gorillas accustomed to our presence are looked after. The trek through their habitat may be challenging, but the reward of standing mere metres away from a group of gorillas is a truly life-changing experience. Saadani National Park The best of both worlds There's no denying that the Masai Mara and Serengeti are exceptional places to spy Africa's famous land mammals, but you're not going to spot a whole lot of its marine life there. Thankfully, there's Saadani National Park. Located on Tanzania's northern coast, this park is not only home to elephants, giraffe and lions, but turtles, humpbacks and dolphins. The Okavango Delta Gettin down to the local watering hole While other national parks may be the hot spots for savanna scouring, Botswana s Okavango Delta is king when it comes to delta delving. As one of the continent s recently declared Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, this sprawling connection of waterways swells with the seasonal flooding of June and August, attracting one of the continent s greatest concentrations of wildlife.
