2 Objectives To understand the opinions of people living in the Middle East and North Africa about the city they live in. To assess the key cities in the region on various aspects that have direct impact on the quality of life of its residents. To identify the top cities in the Middle East and North Africa and develop an overall index based on several parameters.

Each of these elements plays a crucial role, either directly or indirectly, in shaping the overall quality of life. The economic elements used for this study are as follows: Availability of jobs Competitiveness of salaries Benefits for working parents Availability of affordable housing Reasonably-priced day to day necessities (food, water, fuel, etc.) Career growth opportunities Doha (.2) emerges as the top city in terms of economic factors. 45 Key results Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi emerge as the top cities in terms of job availability with around two-fifths of them stating their happiness (3%, 0% and 0%, respectively). Doha is also rated highest in terms of competitive salaries (%) while Dubai (3%) and Abu Dhabi (3%) follow. Doha (%), Manama (%) and Muscat (3%) are the top cities in terms of benefits for working parents. In terms of affordable housing, Muscat (3%) and Manama (%) are the top cities. Muscat (0%), Manama (3%) and Sharjah (%) are rated best when it comes to reasonably priced day to day amenities. For career growth Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi emerge as the top cities with %, % and % respectively rating it positively.

53 Key results Doha (3%), Dubai (0%) and Abu Dhabi (%) emerge as the top 3 cities in terms of end of service benefits. When it comes to termination rights, Muscat, Manama and Dubai share the topmost spot (2% each). Doha takes the top spot in terms of vacation allowances with 3% of them stating so. This is closely followed by Dubai (2%) and Abu Dhabi (0%). Low scores for parenthood allowances across all cities highest for Doha with % Just over half of Doha residents (0%) rated it positively making it the best city in terms of wage protection systems; Abu Dhabi and Sharjah follow (% and %, respectively). Abu Dhabi emerge as the best city in terms of health insurance and social security with about three quarters giving it a positive rating (2%). In terms of proactive policy making, Abu Dhabi and Dubai rated highest (% and 0%) followed by Doha (3%).

62 Key results Muscat and Abu Dhabi are rated highest in terms of clean streets and roads with a vast majority stating so (%); Dubai (0%) follows close behind. In terms of comfortable weather, Beirut emerges best (%) followed by Marrakech (2%) and Alexandria (%). Muscat is rated the top city when it comes to clean air as stated by 2% of its residents; Abu Dhabi and Manama follow (3% and 2%, respectively). In terms of clean water, Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the top rated cities (%, 2% and %, respectively). Dubai takes the top spot in terms of beauty of architecture and buildings with the vast majority rating it positively (3%), followed by Abu Dhabi (%). In terms of manageable traffic, Abu Dhabi is rated best (%) followed by Muscat and Dubai (3% and 0%, respectively).
