1 Issue 5 August 2013 Economic Cooperation George Otieno, Chief Executive Officer African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) 250 million of new projects in Sub-Saharan Africa SACE, Italian Export Credit Agency and credit insurer, confirmed its full commitment in Sub-Saharan Africa and announced a 250 million pipeline of new projects under evaluation to support trade & investment in the region. The figure was disclosed on the occasion of the Annual Sub-Saharan Africa Meetings, which were hosted in Nairobi to facilitate networking and discussions on new business opportunities with key economic operators in the region. In order to strengthen its capacity to support trade & investment in Sub-Saharan Africa, SACE has built up a risk-sharing partnership with the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI). initiated in 2009, when SACE completed a US$10 million investment in ATI, the cooperation was further enhanced in 2010, when it was elected to the Board of the Agency, and in 2011, when SACE entered into a secondment programme resulting in a full time SACE presence in ATI s Nairobi Head Office. 2 information: SACE-Africa-sub-sahariana_EN.pdf Cabinet Secretary for treasury Henry Rotich in Italy Last July 18th 20th the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, Henry Rotich, has been in Italy to promote business opportunities in Kenya. In Milan, he delivered a keynote speech at the seminar "Doing Business in Kenya: opportunities for italian smes" at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan. The Italian ambassador in Nairobi Paola Imperiale was among the participants as well as Chiara Lanterns, counselor and Promos Manager Area Markets and Companies Assolombarda. The event was organized by Promos - Special Agency of the Milan Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of Italy in Nairobi, Assolombarda of the Italian Trade Commission (IAEC) and Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI). In order to allow companies to make the most of the opportunities in Kenya, Promos is considering a mission to Nairobi later this year dedicated to SMEs, in collaboration with the World Bank and the Network PSLO. After Milan the Cabinet Secretary travelled to Sicily where he attended a Forum on Internationalisation of business, culture and research sponsored by ANCE Sicilia, the Association of Building Enterprises. 51 Italian companies met with the Cabinet Secretary confirming their intention to start investments in East Africa, in the areas of infrastructure and transport, energy, environment and waste, water and agro-industry. Cabinet Secretary H. Rotich and Amb. P. Imperiale in Milan, Italy Opening of Consolata hospital in Nkubu On July 20th the Bishop of Meru, Rt.Rev.Salesius Mugambi blessed the opening of the new administration block, emergency wing and outpatient department of the Consolata hospital in Nkubu. The rehabilitation of the hospital has been funded by a 107 million shillings donation (969,000 euro) from the Italian government. The total area of Nkubu hospital is 7,000 m² which includes operating

3 room, radiology, laboratory, maternity, training school for nurses, water purification plant. Recently, with the support of the Abruzzo region, has installed a photovoltaic system for the continuity of the electric current, making the hospital at the forefront throughout the country. The hospital was built by the Consolata nuns in 1949 and since then it never stopped serving the Kenyan people. The complex has completely changed the health service delivery at Consolata hospital Nkubu thanks to the new departments hosted in the new building including emergency wing (the only emergency block in the entire South Imenti district), new laboratory, and outpatient department including surgery, MCH and VCT services.
