Calcium found in dairy foods strengthens our bones. Dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheese Lean meat and chicken Fish Nuts Eat small amounts of food containing fat and sugar. 8 environment Taking Care of the Earth The Earth is our home! We all must help to take care of it. Here is what YOU can do! You can REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE write on both sides of a piece of paper turn off the lights and the television when you leave a room turn off the water while brushing your teeth take short showers no more than 4 minutes long use a reusable lunch bag give your old toys, clothes or books to someone else to use put used paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and plastic containers in the recycle bin reuse the wrapping paper and ribbon from gifts Can you think of some other ways you can help our Earth? Write them here. What happens to the things we put in the garbage? You no longer see the things you throw in the garbage BUT they don t just disappear. They are taken to a LANDFILL, a big piece of land that has a hole dug in it. The garbage is dumped into the hole until the hole is full. Then, it is covered over with soil and another landfill is dug to store more garbage. Eventually, if we don t learn to REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE, we will run out of places to put our garbage.

12 learning time Learning Time There are 4 SEASONS in 1 year: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. There are 12 MONTHS in 1 year: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. Here is an easy way to remember how many days are in each month. 30 days has September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31, except for February it is clear. It has 28 except on a leap year. There are 52 WEEKS in 1 year. Each WEEK has 7 DAYS: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Learning How to Tell Time Our ancestors had to rely on the stars to estimate the time. Fortunately, we have clocks! The front of the clock is called the FACE. The pieces that move around the face are called the HANDS. The small hand tells what hour it is. The big hand tells the minutes. The hour hand goes around the face twice in 1 day. 60 seconds = 1 minute 60 minutes = 1 hour 24 hours = 1 day 365 days = 1 year 10 years = 1 decade 100 years = 1 century Draw Your Own Clock Practice telling time by drawing your own clock. What would your clock look like if it was 5:00? Use the empty circle beside as your guide.
