1 PARAGLIDING INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BIR-BILLING INDIA-2012 (FAI -C-II) HIMALAYAN OPEN PARAGLIDING CHAMPIONSHIP-2012 (from 25 th October to 1 st November 2012) Bir and Billing are the twin positions where the event will be hosted. This site is regarded as among the best in the world for Paragliding. The bald rise of Billing (2600 M) is the take-off site and Bir (2080 M) is the landing site. The road Distance between the two is 14 Km. It is sheltered by the Dhauladhar mountains and surrounded by tea gardens whereas Billing offer opportunities for high altitude and cross country flying for more than 200 KM. The world record for out and return paragliding was set at Bir Billing by a Frenchman Xavier Redmond when he flew Km. The small towns of Taragarh, Baijnath and Jogindernagar are close to Bir-Billing and large town of Palampur is 38 Km from Bir. Himachal Pradesh is conducting Paragliding Pre World Cup of International level since 2002 at Bir-Billing every year with the support of Aero Club of India. Department of Youth Services & Sports intends to organize Paragliding International Championship Bir Billing India-2012 (FAI-C-II) and Himalayan National Paragliding Championship Bir- Billing in this year. The efforts of the Department will be to make this event a Paragliding festival of Himalayas. Event Name: Place: Paragliding International Championship Bir Billing India (FAI-C-II) and Himalayan National Paragliding Championship Bir Billing Bir-Billing, District Kangra H.P. Time Schedule: 25 th October to 1 st November 2012 Organising :- Deptt/Agency. Event Mascot: Department of Youth Services & Sports H.P in collaboration with Department of Tourism H.P. & with technical support from Aero Club of India FAI. Event Mascot is an eagle with wings outstretched and extended for wide bearing a Himachali Cap and jauntily sporting a Himachali scarf. The eagle is strapped to a paragliding that carried it higher and farther into the sky and is framed against the sphere, i.e. representative of the world showing Khelo Bharat Khelo at the top.

2 Events details Tasks: i) Paragliding International Championship Bir Billing India (FAI C-II) under Technical guidance of ACI & FAI. ii) Himalayan National Paragliding Championship- Bir Billing 2012 i.e. Open Championship, Women Championship, Novice Championship and Accuracy Championship. iii) Cross-country/Accuracy/ Novice, which will be decided by the Chairman Technical Committee. Schedule: Trial day nd October, 2012 Competition Days th October to 1 st Nov, 2012 Opening ceremony th October, at 1100 hrs at Billing Closing ceremony st November, 2012 at 1500 hrs.at Bir. Registration of Pilots: On arrival at the championships site each team members shall report to the Registration Office to have their documents checked and to receive any supplementary regulations and information. The end of the official Registration Period is considered to be the official start of the championship. Embassy contact number. Foreign Pilots: International pilot proficiency instrument of level three or equivalent National. 2. Indian Pilots: Paragliding International Championship Bir Billing India (FAI C-II). Any pilot having/ exhibiting capabilities of doing 35 Kms. Cross country Twice and knowing all collision avoidance air Traffic rules and as per guidelines suggested by Aero Club of India for local paragliders. If the competitor s country issues pilot licences for paragliding, the pilot must hold a valid licence in that discipline.

3 Each competitor shall hold a Valid FAI sporting license issued by his own NAC. Competitor from prospective FAI member countries may use a licence issued by the FAI Secretary General. The Applicants who are participating in this event are required to fill up two forms (application forms are attached). 3. Certified equipment. 4. Insurance of the pilot. Indemnity bond for releasing State of H.P from any cost incurred in rescue/medical expenses etc.in case of accident/ emergency. Registration Fee: 100 US $ dollars for foreigners & Rs.1,000/- for Indian participants in the International Championship (FAI C-II) and Himalayan National Paragliding Championship Bir Billing India-2012 For Army Paragliding Pilots/Novice Paragliding Pilots the registration fee will be Rs 500/- only. Complete liasoning with Rescue, Retrieval and Safety teams. Task briefing and GPS control.
