2 JUI, Inc. ear Friend: he Illinois One-Call ystem s part of an ongoing public safety campaign, JUI (Joint Utility ocating Information for xcavators), along with its member utilities, are stressing the importance of underground damage prevention awareness to children across Illinois. his activity book is designed to introduce your child to the importance of safe digging practices, as well as the JUI process--from the excavator's call to when the member companies go out to locate their underground utility facilities with flags and/or paint. his activity book encourages active participation at home from parents or guardians. s you know, the loss of electricity, natural gas, telephone or water can leave communities without vital services and endanger property and public safety. Common examples of digging projects that require a call to JUI include building a room addition or deck, putting up a fence, installing a swing set, a mail box post, clothes line or flag pole, basketball hoop or new water feature. In addition, don't forget to call when planting trees, shrubs, or a garden. he call to JUI and service provided by members are free to homeowners and professional contractors. JUI, also known as the "Illinois One-Call ystem," is a not-for-profit corporation that provides contractors, excavators, homeowners, and others who plan to dig with a toll-free telephone number ( ) to call for the locating and marking of underground utility facilities. JUI serves as a message handling service for utilities, taking information about planned excavations and distributing this information to JUI utility members. It is then the responsibility of each utility to mark the location of their underground facilities at the excavation site. JUI does not mark any buried utilities. JUI covers the entire states of Illinois, excluding the city of Chicago, which is covered by IGG (312/ ). hank you for your support of underground damage prevention awareness. For more information about JUI, please visit our Web site at incerely, Mark. Frost xecutive irector ig afely
