PAGE 2 Introduction Cambodia is one of Asia's friendliest countries and this full-on adventure tour won't disappoint. Starting at iconic Angkor Wat, we explore the ruins on foot, by bike and at sunrise and sunset...and of course we'll visit the famous "Tombraider" temple, Ta Prohm. The area around Lake Tonle Sap is surrounded by cottage industry, and we'll throw our own pots at a pottery, visit a silk farm and take a boat ride to see the stilt villages on Tonle Sap Lake. We learn how to cook Khmer-style and take a tuk tuk ride to Phnom Sampeu. The capital Phnom Penh is unmissable, and we'll have time to see the sights and also visit the thought-provoking Killing Fields. Heading south to the coast we end the holiday with some time to snorkel, swim and chill on the beach. With lots of activity to keep everyone busy, and swimming pools at all hotels, this is a perfect family adventure. Is this holiday for you? Suitable for children from 6yrs old. This holiday is designed for families to experience some of the highlights and the distinct culture of Cambodia whilst enjoying a range of interesting activities. During the holiday there will be some relatively easy walks of up to 2 hours, a 15km cycle ride on gravel and hard roads, boat trips on Tonle Sap Lake and to Rabbit Island, optional swimming or snorkelling, in a tuk tuk, on an ox cart, and on the bamboo train (a bamboo platform atop a rail bogey). All equipment for these family activities including safety equipment is provided. The accommodation we use throughout the tour is very comfortable in well-located family-friendly hotels, all with the use of a pool. During the holiday there is one longer transfer of 5-6 hours between Siem Reap and Battambang (which may be by boat or by road depending on the season) and three shorter transfers of 3-4 hours, between Battambang and Phnom Penh and between Phnom Penh and the coast. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Meet at the group hotel in Siem Reap. A single transfer from Siem Reap is provided. A single timed complementary transfer to the group hotel is provided. Siem Reap is located a few kilometres south of Angkor Wat and extends along the banks of the Siem Reap River. As the gateway to the Angkor complex, the town is a popular tourist destination, with colonial and Chinese style architecture in the old French Quarter and some colourful and bustling markets. Depending on our flight times we may have the opportunity to start exploring the main temple with sunset drinks on top of the Pre Rup temple. Otherwise we may prefer to relax at the comfortable hotel in Siem Reap and enjoy a swim in the pool. MEALS D Day 2: Visit the sensational Ankor Wat. Covering approximately 400sqkm, the temples of Angkor Wat stretch from Tonle Sap Lake to the Khulen Mountains. Either consumed by the jungle or sitting in amongst the rice paddies this spectacular site, Cambodia s national emblem is the largest religious monument in the world. Our tour starts at the Bayon temple and we walk around some of the main sights of Angkor Wat to discover well-preserved temples and countless intricate carvings including the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. We also visit the temple and Ta Prohm (famed from the film Tomb Raider), which is the most charming with trees growing out of

PAGE 3 the ruins. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon where we can cool off in the lovely pool. MEALS BL Day 3: Bike ride, make a pot or weave, oxcart ride and a boat ride! A full day of total excitement! We start with a gentle bike ride of around 1 hour along quiet back roads to the remains of several royal temples at Hariharalaya, the ancient capital of the area. From here we continue a little further to our destination, the Prolung Khmer Pottery and Weaving Training Centre. This has been set up to provide young local women from rural communities a skill and income. We have a chance to either help out making some pottery or maybe with the weaving. There are many colourful souvenirs to be purchased here and the proceeds go directly back into the people. Leaving the village we are collected by an oxcart and taken to our peaceful lunch spot near a temple. This afternoon takes us on the water as we take a boat through the mangroves. We visit a local fisherman s village, Kompong Phluk, which is built on stilts. It is great to float along the lake taking in the atmosphere below the forest listening and trying to spot to the macaque monkeys flinging themselves through the trees. We then return to Siem Reap for our third night. MEALS BL Day 4: Visit the Reclining Buddha at Preah Ang Thom, walk to waterfalls. After breakfast we drive for approximately 1 hour through the delightful palm-fringed Cambodian countryside up into the hills of Phnom Kulen. These hills are of special religious significance to Hindus and Buddhists, with many coming to the holy mountain on pilgrimage. The area is known for its 1000 small carvings representing fertility which can be seen etched into the sandstone just beneath the waters surface. We continue a short distance to Preah Ang Thom. This Buddhist monastery was built in the 16th century and is notable for the very impressive giant reclining Buddha, the country s largest. It is carved out of a huge sandstone boulder. We continue our walk to some nearby waterfalls. We have some lunch here and depending on the flow rate, we can have a swim and relax before returning to Siem Reap. The rest of the day we have free to relax. MEALS BL Day 5: Visit silkworm farm at Pouk. Afternoon free in Siem Reap. A more relaxing day today. After breakfast we visit the Puok silk farm. Here we learn about the mulberry trees, the silkworm farming, cocoon unwinding and preparing of the silk threads. The farm is also a training centre for silk making skills, including silk painting and weaving. These skills are then transferrable to local rural peoples home villages. It is a fascinating venture and super to learn about the techniques of humble roots of this beautiful fabric. We return to the hotel before lunch and have the rest of the day free. We can enjoy the hotel swimming poor or wander around Siem Reap.

PAGE 4 MEALS BL Day 6: Transfer by boat across Tonle Sap Lake to Battambang. Bamboo train ride. Depending on the season, our day voyage to Battambang crosses Tonle Sap Lake before merging with the Stung Sang Ker River as we enjoy passing by the floating village and greet passing water traffic. Arriving into Battambang mid-afternoon, we check-into our group hotel before enjoying free time to explore this French colonial town, set against the backdrop of fertile hills. In the dry season from February to July we will make this transfer by road. For October and December departures we will travel by boat along the Stung Sang Ker River. (5-6 hours). Throughout the city, beautiful Wats are an expression of the city s religious heritage and contribute to the Battambang's unique character and beauty. Reconvening early evening, we take a bamboo train sunset journey into the countryside to view Battambang from afar. This great little ride is basically a large bamboo platform mounted onto train axles and powered by a lawnmower engine. Many tourists enjoy the ride, but it is also frequently used by locals to transport their goods home or to market. It is great fun. Return to the hotel in Battambang. MEALS BLD Day 7: Cambodian cooking with chef after buying veg at local market. Tuk tuk ride. A quick swim in the hotel pool gets us ready for the day ahead! This morning we are immersed in Khmer food, local traditional Cambodian cuisine, which is said to be one of the oldest living cuisines! Arranged by the chef at the Smoking Pot restaurant in Battambang, we go to the market to select the vegetables and ingredients for lunch and then return to prepare it. We will learn many techniques in regards to local spices and cooking skills. And then we get to enjoy the lunch we have just prepared. Perfect! In the afternoon we take a tuk tuk to the Phnom Sampeu hills. These served as the frontline between government forces and the Khmer Rouge. Continuing Phnom Bannon Hill we ascend the 337 steps to reach a magnificent panoramic view of Battambang below. We then return to our hotel. MEALS BLD Day 8: Transfer to Phnom Penh. Optional visit to Choeung Ek. A scenic morning drive this morning (4hrs) takes us to Cambodia's colourful capital of Phnom Penh. We check into our hotel and have some free time to enjoy lunch, and maybe a swim in the hotel pool. This afternoon we drive to Choeung Ek and visit the infamous Killing Fields where over a 3-year period from it is estimated 17,000 men, women and children were sent to this camp. Accompanied by our guide, visiting the Killing Fields is an emotional experience, as we visit the mass graves and large memorial stupa where 8000 skulls of the victims have been laid out. Although this is an educational and informative sight, you may feel that you do not wish to take your children here and in this circumstance you can stay at the hotel and enjoy the facilities. In the early evening we return to the hotel in Phnom Penh and enjoy dinner. MEALS BLD

PAGE 5 Day 9: Cyclo-rickshaw tour of Phmon Penh. Situated along the banks of the Mekong, Phnom Penh was said to be the 'Pearl of Asia'. Phnom Penh is vibrant, lively and a wonderful assault on the senses. Taking a more traditional mode of transport, we embark upon a cyclo-rickshaw tour of the city, heading for extravagant Silver Pagoda, which as the name would suggest, is covered with several tons of gleaming silver. With time to meander the Russian markets, we head out to the hilltop temple of Wat Phnom. Founded by a wealthy Khmer lady by the name of Penh this treasured Wat is a wonderful vantage point to view one of Asia s most up and coming cities. Returning to the vibrancy of the waterfront, we can enjoy the sunset on one of the many rooftop bars. Overnight, Phnom Penh. MEALS BL Day 10: Transfer to Kep on the coast. Resort hill-top hotel for relaxing. For our last few days in Cambodia we head for the coast. We drive for approximately 3 hours to Kep, a former colonial retreat for the French. On the way we will stop at the former Capital of Oudong which contains many huge stupas situated at the top of surrounding hills. Kep is situated on a small headland, a perfect place to relax. Our hill-top resort has a large swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and just begging to be played in. There are also several cosy seating areas around the grounds with stunning views over the palm trees and forest to the nearby ocean. MEALS B Day 11: Morning free. Afternoon visit to salt plains, pepper farm, sunset cruise. We have the morning free at the resort to relax and enjoy the setting, with the children swimming in the pool. After lunch we visit the salt plains around Kampot/Kep and the local pepper farms that are famous in Kampot. We then have a sunset cruise in Kampot taking in the stunning vistas. Return to our resort hotel in Kep. MEALS B Day 12: Boat to paradise beaches on Rabbit Island for the day. Return to Kep. Today we go to Rabbit Island (Koh Tonsay) to enjoy its two sandy beaches with coconut trees and crystal clear shallow waters. We take a small boat from the harbour at Kep to the island. We can swim and snorkel and also take a walk along the beach or inland through the forest. There are pretty little thatched houses on the island and a couple of places we can get some lunch and refreshing drinks. In the late afternoon we return to our hotel in Kep. and in the sea at Rabbit Island MEALS B Day 13: Morning guided walk. Afternoon at leisure.

PAGE 6 This morning we take an easy guided walk through the hills above Kep with stunning views along the Phu Quoc coastline and to the Bokor Range where we walked a couple of days ago. To the east we can see across several islands. After our walk we return to the resort and the rest of the day is free to enjoy the pool and other facilities. MEALS B Day 14: Departure day. A single transfer to Phnom Penh Airport is provided. After breakfast we have a transfer (3 hours) to Phnom Penh Airport where KE Land Only Package services end. MEALS B Holiday Information What's Included English-speaking local guide Group airport transfers All accommodation as described in the trip dossier Meals as detailed in the Meal Plan All land and boat transport required by the itinerary Cycle hire National park entrance fees All excursions mentioned in the itinerary What's Not Included Travel insurance Visas Airport taxes Airport transfers other than group transfers Some meals as detailed in the meal plan Extra activities and excursions Tips for local staff Miscellaneous personal expenditure Meal Plan All breakfasts, 8 lunches and 4 dinners are included in the holiday price. 7 PAGE 7 Wherever we travel in Cambodia, we will find a wide variety of cuisine is available including French, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese. In smaller towns and villages, local food such as charcoal chicken, sticky rice and fried fish will commonly be offered. Cambodian food tends not to be as hot or spicy as Thai. The most popular fast food in Cambodia, often served from street stalls, is the Chinese noodle soup or `pho`. Joining Arrangements & Transfers A single timed transfer from Siem Reap Airport to the group hotel is included in the Land Only holiday price. This transfer will normally be timed to for flight arrivals at midday of Day 1. Return transfers are for the early evening flight from Phnom Penh. Anyone may use these transfer but clients making their own flight arrangements must check the time prior to departure. For clients arriving on earlier or later flights, independent airport transfers can be arranged at an additional cost. Group Leader & Support Staff The group will be accompanied throughout by a professional English-speaking local tour leader. Spending Money We suggest that $ per average family (2 adults, 2 children) should be sufficient to cover your non included meals, drinks, personal and incidental expenses, as well as the cost of your Cambodian Visa which you will pay for on arrival at Siem Reap Airport. This amount will also allow you to pay reasonable tips to your local guide, drivers and other local staff. We recommend that you carry your travel money in the form of US dollars cash as this is most easily exchanged. If you are intending to buy expensive souvenirs or considerable quantities of soft drinks or beer, you should budget accordingly. You can withdraw cash from ATM's (using a debit or credit card) in Siem Reap and in Phnom Penh. Guidance On Tipping Tips are the accepted way of saying thank you to your local guide and other local staff. They do not form part of their wages. KE always pays local crews the best rates of pay, no matter what country they are in and any tips they receive are seen as a personal thank you from group members. We advise our local teams that tips are a bonus and entirely dependent on the service that they provide. We suggest that you allow a total of $40-50 (per group member) for tipping your local staff.
