The enormous glaciated peaks, challenging terrain and towering heights make for an exhilarating adventure. Embark on your expedition to the summit of the mighty Stok Kangri: standing at 6153m! Along the way you will discover green glacial lakes surrounded by snow-capped peaks, with just wildlife for company. WHAT IT S LIKE... PHYSICAL RATING: A challenging expedition. CULTURAL OR HISTORICAL INTEREST: Ladakh has always been a route between Asia and the Middle East, and Buddhism and Islam have co-existed peacefully for centuries. LANGUAGES: Ladakhi. Hindi, Urdu and English widely understood. GEOGRAPHY: Arid Himalayan mountains and valleys with an average altitude over 3000m. CLIMATE: Dry with hot summers at lower altitudes and unreliable monsoon rain in the autumn, very cold winters at higher altitudes.

3 WHAT IS AN? Expeditions are a life-changing experience, a chance for young people to go on a fun and educational journey with their friends. Most expedition destinations are in developing countries, allowing students to not only experience stunning parts of the world but also witness a very different way of life, often with the chance to immerse themselves in the culture through project work. HOW IT WORKS... EXPEDITION TIMELINE EXPEDITION LAUNCH ITINERARY DEVELOPMENT FUNDRAISING LEADER MEETING EXPEDITION TRAINING FINAL PREPARATION FUNDRAISING Our expeditions are made up of four main phases; acclimatisation, trekking, project and rest & relaxation. During the build-up we put students in the driving seat, allowing them to finalise their itinerary alongside our experts. Acclimatisation Arrive in country and spend some time getting used to the new culture whilst planning your next phase and changing currency. Trekking You may take part in a trek doing either a cultural trek through villages or an attempt to summit a nearby mountain! Project Dedicate some time to helping on a project - either community or environmental based, often working with local people. R&R Enjoy some R&R! This could involve a few days on a beautiful beach, reflecting on your expedition or an adrenaline adventure.

4 YOUR ITINERARY The following itinerary is fixed by our Destination Managers. DAY 1-2 DAY 3 DAY 4-5 DAY 6-15 DAY 16 DAY DAY 19 DAY 20 DAY 21 Depart the UK on your flight to Delhi. Head straight to your accommodation and adjust to the timezone and hectic pace of India s capital! Return to the airport and catch your connecting flight to Leh (3524m), a fantastic way to enter the Himalaya. It will take you a few days here to acclimatise to the altitude. Visit monasteries, undertake some short walks and make any final preparations for your trek. Start your incredible 10 day trek across the high passes of Ganda La (4900m) and Stok La (4850m), before climbing one of the highest trekking peaks in the region Stok Kangri (6153m). The trek provides a fantastic challenge to a motivated, enthusiastic and fit team. Reach the summit and enjoy panoramic views across the Himalaya. Spend the day in Leh, taking a well earned rest following your trek. Pass some time visiting the sites, souvenir shopping and tasting some of the fantastic local cuisine. Start your overland journey back to Delhi. On your first day, travel to Keylong to spend a night before travelling onto the mountain gateway town of Manali. Continue your journey from Manali on to Delhi, the journey is long but the scenery is spectacular! Explore the vibrant city of Delhi. Perhaps visit the Red Fort, the Qutb complex or Humyun s tomb. Enjoy a final team meal together to celebrate the successful completion of your expedition! Depart Delhi and fly back to the UK for your homecoming. Due to the changing nature of the world over the build up period, Outlook may be required to change aspects of, or the order of the itinerary. Outlook will consult with the Link Teacher/Group Leader and all participants if this is the case.

Once at basecamp an acclimatisation and glacier skills day will take place before the summit attempt.

You will really need to pull together as a team to conquer this mighty peak.

5 ADVENTURE These are the key things around which your expedition will be built! The Indian Himalayan region is packed with adventurous opportunities. Trek through stunning landscapes, stopping by ancient monasteries surrounded by dizzying peaks. You will be taking on the challenge of Stok Kangri, standing at 6153m. This fantastic snow-capped peak is a great introduction into high altitude mountaineering. The 10 day journey includes a multi-day trek over the Stok La Pass (4900m) before heading on to the basecamp. Once at basecamp an acclimatisation and glacier skills day will take place before the summit attempt. The summit day can be a challenging and tiring experience with over 1000m of ascent over a glacier and summit ridge. You will really need to pull together as a team to conquer this mighty peak. All your hard work will definitely be rewarded by the incredible views from the summit - a spectacle that will stay with you forever. You will have guides and a team of mules and muleteers as well as a cook to help you succeed on this epic journey. This is a big challenge and the team will need to take part in winter skills training before they leave the UK, as well as undergoing personal fitness preparation. After the trek of a lifetime, experience a completely different environment by ending your expedition in the chaotic, colourful and exciting city of Delhi - a world away from the wilderness of the Himalaya!

WINTER SKILLS TRAINING To best guarantee winter conditions, the training will take place in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. Bunkhouse accommodation and equipment hire (winter boots, crampons, ice axe) is included. LINK TEACHER TRAINING Leader Team Training (first aid as required). LEADER TEAM COMPOSITION 2 Link Teachers and an Outlook Expedition Leader. FLIGHTS International flight. Internal flight. INSURANCE Comprehensive overseas medical insurance. TRANSPORT All overseas transport. IN DESTINATION All food and accommodation. All group activities including any entrance fees. All rest and relaxation activity. WHAT S NOT INCLUDED? Spending money for gifts / souvenirs whilst on expedition. Inoculations, prophylaxis and personal medicine. (All participants based in England and Wales receive 10% discount at Nomad Travel). Visas and passports please refer to page 3 to see if a visa is required. Personal belongings insurance (this may be covered by your household / contents insurance). Loss of passport. Cancellation insurance (contact our Customer Service Team for more information). Personal equipment (e.g. rucksack, sleeping bag, waterproof clothing); all participants receive 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoor. Transport to and from UK-based training courses, to the Final Preparation Day venue and from the airport. Food and accommodation in the UK, unless specified.
