1 GUIDELINES FOR SCOUTMASTER CONFERENCES TROOP 313 Bel Air MD Scout must be in Class A uniform. (Exceptions: New scout within first 6 months, parental notification of uniform replacement difficulties and while attending a camp-out) If scout does not fulfill Scoutmaster requirements to his satisfaction, the scout may be asked to come back either within the meeting or next opportunity.

2 RANK: SCOUT 1. Having completed age requirements and application. 2. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance and explain briefly. (PAGE 6) 3. Demonstrate: Standing (PAGE 7) (understand the three fingers represent the three parts of the Scout Law. Duty to God, Duty to Country and Duty to Self. The thumb and little finger represents the bond that unites scouts worldwide) (used to show respect to the flag, while standing at attention) (using the left hand, no interlocking fingers, used by Baden Powell to show respect to the Zulu king in Africa) 4. While standing recite the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto (Be Prepared), Scout Slogan 5. Tie a square knot. (PAGE 8) 6. Explain how you live the Scout Oath and Law? 7. Ask if there are any concerns, problems or special needs. The Outdoor Code As an American, I will do my best to - Be clean in my outdoor manners. I will treat the outdoors as a heritage. I will take care of it for myself and others I will keep my trash and garbage out of lakes, streams, fields, woods, and roadways. Be careful with fire. I will prevent wildfire. I will build my fires only where they are appropriate. When I have finished using a fire, I will make sure it is cold out. I will leave a clean fire ring, or remove all evidence of my fire. Be considerate in the outdoors. I will treat public and private property with respect. I will use low-impact methods of hiking and camping. and Be conservation minded I will learn how to practice good conservation of soil, waters, forests, minerals, grasslands, wildlife, and energy. I will urge others to do the same.

3 RANK: TENDERFOOT 4. Review requirements in Handbook and ask questions appropriately. (Discuss trips, buddy system, simple first aid etc.) 5. Name patrol, give patrol cheer and describe your flag. 6. Explain the Buddy System. 7. What are the three most common poisonous plants? (Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, Poison Summac) 8. Demonstrate Heimlich maneuver. What is it used for? (Choking) 9. Tie a square knot (to combine two ropes), and two half hitches and taut line (clothes line or tent line, adjustable) and explain uses. 10. What position should a flag be in an indoor stage? (From audience, left side of stage) 11. How should the flag be raised up the flag pole? (Quickly) 12. Explain safe hiking rules? On road and trail? What do you do if you are lost? 13. Explain how you live the Scout Oath and Law? 14. Ask if there are any concerns, problems or special needs.

What is a Second Degree Burn? (Skin redness with blister) c. How do you treat object in the eye? (Wash hands and flush with clean water) d. What is CPR? (Cardio Pulmunary Resucitation) 13. Where the swimming requirements difficult? 14. Did you participate in an anti-drug program at school or troop? 15. Explain how you live the Scout Oath and Law? 16. Ask if there are any concerns, problems or special needs.
