Binley Woods Parish Plan - Analysis of Main Survey Responses Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment Question D1: How often do you use the following? Binley Woods Parish Plan Main Questionnaire 1 Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment

Question D2: Is it important to retain the sports / play equipment at the Recreation Ground and Village Green? Binley Woods Parish Plan Main Questionnaire 2 Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment

Question D3: What additional sports / activities would you like to see at the Recreation Ground? Additional sports / activities requested by just one respondent each: Adventure days for local children in the woods Annual bonfire Badminton court Female football Fetes / plant sales / village activities Gala type sports day for adults & children Gym Hockey Lit up 5 a side pitch Long jump sand pit Military style fitness Outdoor table-tennis Paddling pool Painted lines for athletics R/C race track Scouts / guides activities Woodland trail Other comments relating to additional sports / activities: Any that would improve the wellbeing of young people in the village. Anything other than football, which is the only sport played on the Recreation Ground at the moment. Anything to benefit the young and older residents of Binley Woods Goal posts in the back field sadly missed these days I grew up playing football in the park when the posts were in the bottom of park. Good to keep space for any use that people wish I believe there is a massive opportunity here to introduce lots of sports / activities to the village, especially for children. Regular organised sports days for anybody wanting to take part Something for the older children to stop them hanging round the little park especially at night. Binley Woods Parish Plan Main Questionnaire 3 Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment

Question D4: What other improvements would you like to see made to the Recreation Ground? Improvements requested by one respondent each: Adventure playground All weather pitch Barbeque area Better football pitch Café CCTV Chessboard Doggy Park! Flower beds Hillock for sledging Improved security / CCTV More colourful plants More wheelchair friendly New basketball area Outdoor exercise equipment Picnic area Provision for disabled children Skateboard park Smaller skateboard ramp Binley Woods Parish Plan Main Questionnaire 4 Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment

Other comments relating to Recreation Ground improvements: Added benefit to the health of residents An updated park with more to do At the bottom field right hand corner dried up pond cut back and re-established with seating put round so families can watch the wildlife / ducks. Wild garden bit put back in. At this time the facility is excellent Census directed at children & teens as to what they would like Children play area needs stones clearing from it. Currently the recreation ground is unusable due to the amount of dog mess on it. I have very young children and I find it UNSAFE. Earls Walk side of park kept trimmed as the other sides are. I like the open space as it is. The space is flexible at present. It is important to maintain the equipment to a high standard to avoid vandalism. Please keep the trees! Just to keep it well used and encourage the young people to use it. Maps with woodland walks to encourage walking. 100 metre track marked up next to the football pitch (so runners can train). Measured woodland runs (eg a 5K run around the woods). Open the pavilion during school holidays 2/3 times a week for 3 hours to use toilets and serve hot/cold drinks and snacks. Run by volunteers Removal of graffiti wall (like now). It is unused eyesore - seen every day. Since the installation of the skate board facility there has been a noticeable increase in rubbish around the site which needs addressing perhaps by a bin? Binley Woods Parish Plan Main Questionnaire 5 Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment

Question D5: What other improvements would you like to see made to the Village Green? There were fewer answers to this question, with a diverse range of comments. The comments are listed in full: A ball area A small nature area near the trees for younger children to play and explore or a tree house or log cabin. Access by foot from Craven Avenue to Woodlands Road Area for older children so they don't use children's swings as goal posts At this time the facility is excellent Better lighting Better swings. Litter picks Child locks on gates - CCTV Children's play area Flower beds / displays. I am not sure about that. I feel it is better used for the very young children I think these facilities should be manned on a very regular basis and not solely for outsiders use. I think this is already a good area. I don't like the area beside it as I have often seen older children / young adults using it as a toilet! Leave it alone please. It's already too full. Less older children hanging around on the play equipment so that younger children can't use it. Lower benches or raise foot level More bulbs needed More colourful plants. More equipment for smaller / younger children, ie toddlers More equipment for younger children More equipment. More facilities for children's play area - needs revamp - more modern More flowers and plants. More playground equipment for tots. More rubbish bins. More use of the village green by village organisations. I'm not sure about the young trees being planted on the grassed area - this should be open for community activities. Never been to or used it. New play equipment and better security to prevent damage. No ball games notice removed None - an excellent amenity to the village None - don't think it's big enough. Outside adult exercise equipment Painted please. Fence repaired Park benches Park benches placed around the village especially for the elderly. These could be donated by villagers who wish to do so in memory of a loved one. Play equipment suitable for younger age group Rather more frequent maintenance of trees, shrubs and hedges (pyracantha). Noticeboards Re-site / orientate a seat to look away from the hedge. Seating Slide is a little dangerous. Binley Woods Parish Plan Main Questionnaire 6 Section D1 Sports Activities & Play Equipment

Sorry, no real ideas, Again, it is a flexible space and it's good to have an area for remembrance. That is a nice bright and cheerful area difficult to improve. The park needs maintaining and painting. Would be nice if the Village Green was used as a Village Green for events etc. The play equipment here is insufficient for the needs of the village. The equipment itself is of limited value for 0-5 year olds, especially as the slide is practically inaccessible to smaller children and would not be interesting to older children. This is a community facility but this is not obvious and can be mistaken for the private use of residents of Foxwood Drive To make it more easy for parents to get prams through the gate Village Green - where is it? What village green!! Or did you mean the new (expensive) house development grassland!! Young people respecting the village green equipment and trees. Less noise from screaming young girls. Comments re sports facilities: Spend more on amenities for young children - green play areas. They are the future of Binley Woods. We are all keen tennis players. Could the village hall car park not be used as a tennis court when the hall is vacant? Or have a tennis court near the Recreation Ground. We currently go to the Memorial Park in the summer for use of their outdoor tennis courts. Would be useful to find out who else would use this facility.
