4 Central Railway Model & Historical Association Regular Meeting Minutes February By Sage Viehe Called to Order at 7:00 pm by Dan Marett-President A presentation Operation Lifesaver was presented by a representative from Norfolk Southern Rail Road. A large number of members participated in the process with insightful information. Dan Marett emphasized the importance of the CRMHA Train festival beginning Friday February 5 th with additional details regarding man power needs and the sign up sheet. Dan also reminded everyone of the need to use social media for this event whenever possible. Treasurers Report-Jim Alexander detailed the status of our finances and expectations of some expenses that will be realized from the train show. Museum Curator-Jack Green mentioned the continuing inventory needs of our donations prior to processing for retention or sale. Secretary-Sage Viehe noted the status of our membership dues remittance and that a reminder to those delinquent would go out after the train show. Company Store-Roger Smith-items are now ready to be packed and moved to the train show Computer Administrator-Howard Garner-work on the detector and indicator panels continue. Vice President of Internal Affairs-Joe Fitzpatrick-no report Member Programs-Sandy Eustis-a proposal to participate in the train show May 20 th,21 st in Clinton SC was presented. Museum Layout and Track Work-Bob Folsom-again reminded everyone of the need to be hands on lots of things to do and learn and that it is easier than you think. The scratch building switch project is close to completion. Central Crossings Newsletter of the CRM&HA December Page 4

School & Other-Sandy Eustis-nothing new to report Publicity-Etta Ruppert-no report Station Master-Sage Viehe-noted the need to actually ask anyone at the train show who is interested in trains to come and be a member! Hand them an application. Newsletter-Ralph Watson-indicated that the timing of the newsletter was still under review but that it would not be monthly. He was also considering a link to our revamped web page. Web Master-David Mead-work continues on redesigning the web page and need for additional band width for that plan. He suggested the need for a business account in as much as anything that is relatively free would not have the band width that is needed. Preliminary costs are estimated at $60.00 per month. Marketing-some possible candidates have been discussed but no one who has been approached is interested. Old Business: Rail Fan Report-Mac McMillin-Newry sidings contain hand sawn wood logs stacked in gondolas. Ties are being replaced in the Clemson area. The Spartanburg to Pickens track work continues. New Business: Sage Viehe Mentioned the need for sign on the main highways in Central to help locate the museum. Central Crossings Newsletter of the CRM&HA December Page 5
6 Did You Know? FROM SANDY EUSTIS As many of you already know, our occupancy of Function Junction is soon coming to a close, and we have lots and lots of modeling supplies, bench work, paint, electrical bits and pieces, and other STUFF that we thought might be worth keeping that we now need to dispose of. Some of this STUFF is on the first floor of Function Junction; some is in the basement there; even more STUFF is under the museum layout or in our storage room next to the firehouse. So throughout March, we'll be sorting, giving away, and/or discarding a bunch of rare and potentially valuable STUFF that you might be able to use. If you come to Thursday work sessions this month, you just might be able to go home with some exquisite train junque at NO COST! two words to the wise...be THERE Some of the material available is the dozens of hand made G Scale Trestles from Bob Hanson s collection. Please find a home for these! RAILROADING IN THE NEWS JACKSONVILLE, Fla., -- February 22, 2016 This morning as of market open, CSX (Nasdaq: CSX) became a component of the Nasdaq-100 Index (Nasdaq:NDX), the world s preeminent large-cap growth index. The Nasdaq-100 Index is composed of the 100 largest non-financial stocks listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market based on market capitalization. We are pleased to join the influential and successful group of companies that make up the Nasdaq-100 Index, said Frank Lonegro, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Inclusion on the Nasdaq-100 Index reflects CSX s strong track record of delivering shareholder value despite challenging business conditions. (ed. note- emphasis added) CSX currently has a market capitalization of approximately $25 billion. Launched in 1985, the Nasdaq-100 Index now represents more than $5 trillion in market capitalization and includes industry-leading companies in a variety of sectors from science and technology to retail and transportation. 7 On30 Modular layout premiere showing at CRMHA Train Show Eight modules each 24 x 72 inches were mated together for the first time. Built by 4 different modelers all from different parts of the Upstate but constructed to a common standard trains were successfully traversing all sections. Sandy Eustis coordinated the effort including painting the backdrop on Tuesday before the train show and making the skirting on Friday afternoon, AT the train show. The modules are built like an airplane wing and are very light weight. Power distribution is via a 2 wire bus with Anderson Power Pole connectors between modules. Bruce Gathman and Chris Elliot designed and cut the lumber. Modules were assembled by Joe Hedl, Sandy Eustis, Ralph Watson and Roy Sabean. Thanks David Mead for fixing the Digitrax channel interference with the other layouts at the show. Ralph Watson photos
8 In January a small group of CRMHA members (it had to be small because of limited parking and to respect Mrs. Hanson s wishes) spent many many man hours dismantling and removing thousands of pieces of trains, track, structures, signs, vehicles, hats, artifacts, accessories, books, documents, scrapbooks, videos, papers and pretty much anything that was not nailed down and some things that were from Bob s train room and taking down the room filling layout. We had to deal with a snowstorm and many trips hand carrying all the HO and G scale items to the parking area. Preliminary estimate is that we sold over $800 in Hanson items at the Train Show and we did not even start selling the G Gauge yet. This photo, taken by Jim Alexander, shows maybe 5% of the G locos and cars that Bob collected and displayed every Christmas in his family room.
