Project 43 Modular HST journeys for Western Mainlines (v4) from Just Trains Build your own journey with handy bite size scenarios that reflect common FGW HST services around 2015 by driving scenarios in any order you like. This pack includes 10 UP and 10 Down Scenarios with stopping pattern variants. Currently there are two bonus scenarios requiring the SDML extension, This pack will be updated occasionally with different stopping pattern variants and when extensions are added to the WML route. These scenarios are suitable for everyone with WML but are especially suitable for: 1: Users with lower end systems that cannot handle lots of AI on long haul runs but can handle lots of AI on shorter runs. 2: Users who don't have the time to drive long haul run in a single sitting and have problems with loading from save points mid journey (a TS core issue) 3: Quick drivers that prefer to see prototypical traffic in realistic densities. 4: Users that like more flexibility than single stand alone end-to-end scenarios can offer. 5: Users experiencing stability issues with WML
DLC Requirements: Every effort has been made to minimise the required DLC to make these scenarios as accessible as possible while still reflecting the stock variation encountered on the route. In addition to the kuju assets already required for the route you will also need: Voyager advanced Available from Just Trains Thompson/Oovee Class 150 Available on Steam (note: NOT the DTG class 150/1) DTG ATW DMU pack Available on Steam RSC EWS 66 v2 - Available on Steam RSC Freightliner 66 v2- Available on Steam This pack uses the default kuju HST however the AP MTU enhancement pack is compatible with this asset. Scenario description This pack is designed to give the you the opportunity to put together actual journeys by playing each modular scenario in various combinations. Scenarios are available in both Down (D) and Up (U) journeys. Down scenarios are Westbound journeys from London, Up are journeys towards London, in addition there are variants that offer alternate common calling patterns. The Down journeys start mid afternoon on a clear summers day and run on into the evening the further west you get. Up journeys start early morning on a cloudy autumn day and run towards lunchtime, The scenarios: Scenario 1 London Paddington (PAD) to Reading (RDG) This scenario represents the fast run between London and Reading. A route that all services on the western mainline into or out of London must take. The line is 125 mph running with the only speed restrictions on the approaches to Reading and London. The line is busy with not only traffic on the adjacent relief lines but also on the main lines, you may encounter some cautionary aspects if you get too close to the preceding service. Keep and eye out for the The Great Western Railway Preservation Groups yard at Southall and gravel trains at Acton yard. Scenario 1 also has a B variant with a stop at Slough (SLO) Mainline services used to serve Slough on a regular basis but after the absorption of Thames trains into the FGW franchise services were cut back severely with the loss of direct services to Bristol and South Wales, For a while semi fast Exeter services called at Slough and Cheltenham services continued for some time with Slough on the calling pattern but now only Oxford fast services regularly call at Slough. Scenario D1b or U1b is included for anyone who wants to drive an Oxford/London fast service.
Scenario 2 Reading (RDG) to Oxford (OXF) This scenario represents fast services between Reading and Oxford, the main line is 125 mph between Scours lane and Moreton Cutting in the down direction however up bound has a significant section of 120 mph running. North of Didcot Parkway the prevailing line speed is 90 mph, you will have to deal with the 70 mph crossing at Didcot east junction, this is a busy flat junction and you may encounter cautionary signals. Cross country services will be encountered on this section however the tend to be routed via the relief lines to avoid conflicts with FGW fast services. Local FGW services are at a lower frequency than the Reading to London section but the section is a key freight corridor. Keep an eye out for heritage stock at the Didcot railway centre adjacent to the avoiding line. Scenario 2 also has a B variant which includes a stop at Didcot Parkway, while most fast Oxford to London services use the avoiding line some peak hour and weekend services do call at Didcot Parkway using the 25 mph Didcot west curve. Scenario 3 Reading (RDG) to Swindon (SWI) This scenario represents the main east west corridor for all trains heading to Bristol, South Wales and the Golden valley. At Swindon (at the western end) further directional choices can be made. The line is 125 mph for almost the entire section. Between Reading and Didcot the route shares the route with Oxford FGW and Cross country services, beyond Didcot the line continues via Wantage to Swindon, at this time no local services use this section and all local stations were closed when the line was upgraded to 125 mph running, however FGW did trial a Swindon to Oxford shuttle for a while. Swindon is the junction with the Golden Valley line to Gloucester. Scenario 3 also includes a call at Didcot Parkway variant. Around half the fast services using this route call at Didcot Parkway. Scenario 4 Swindon (SWI) to Bristol Parkway (BPW) This scenario follows the main route to and from South Wales via the Badminton cut off. It leaves the mainline at Wootton Basset junction, despite the route being more direct it has some significant speed variations making the route quite technical to drive, service frequency becomes lower on this section until Westerleigh Junction where north south Cross country services join the route, At Bristol parkway at the western end further directional choices can be made. Scenario 5 Bristol Parkway (BPW) to Cardiff Central (CDF) This scenario follows the South Wales mainline via the Severn tunnel to Cardiff Central, the line is mixed traffic with the widest variation of traffic found on the Western Mainlines. FGW services mix with Cardiff to Taunton, Weymouth and Portsmouth FGW services, ATW local and long distance services, and a few Cross country trains. Freight services include Coal, Steel and Container trains. There is one intermediate stop at Newport.
Scenario 6 Bristol Parkway (BPW) to Bristol Temple Meads (BRI) This route is an important north south link through Bristol for cross country and regional FGW services, It is not a common route for FGW HST trains with only a small handful of services being routed via this line. However this path is commonly used as an engineering works diversion and is provided in this pack for this reason, it also adds more variation in route choices. Scenario 7 Swindon (SWI) to Bristol Temple Meads (BRI) This scenario represents the heart of the original Great western Mainline via Box tunnel. The route is 125 mph between Swindon and Box. You pass the little used Thingly junction just west of Chippenham and Bathampton junction near bath where local FGW services join the route and share the line into Bristol. There are four intermediate stations on this section however nearly all HST services call only at Chippenham and Bath which is represented in the scenario. Scenario 8 Bristol Temple Meads (BRI) to Western Super Mare (WSM) This scenario represents the infrequent extension of the Bristol services to the seaside resort of Weston Super Mare. These services are more frequent in the summer months, its common for these services to call at Yatton, Worl and Nailsea & Blackwell, this scenario represents that. This scenario also has a B variant which continues beyond Weston Super Mare and rejoins the mainline to Taunton calling at intermediate stops, this is to represent the one peak hour service to follow this path. Due to the timings it does not connect with continuing scenarios at Taunton. Scenario 9 Bristol Temple Meads (BRI) to Taunton (TAU) Fast run to Taunton. Not many FGW HST services follow this route, a few Taunton and Paignton services run through as does a daily Plymouth service. The route is primarily a corridor for Cross country services. Direct services from London via the Kennet line rejoin the route at Cogload Junction Just north of Taunton. Scenario 10 Taunton (TAU) to Exeter St Davids (EXD) Follow the key Taunton to Exeter section with the steep climb up to Whiteball tunnel. Keep an eye out for the Junction with the West Somerset railway at Norton Fitzwarren. This scenario has a B variant with an additional stop at Tiverton Parkway around half the West country services call at TVP but nearly all the FGW services that route via Bristol do call here. Scenario 11 Exeter St Davids (EXD) to Plymouth (PLY) Note: Requires the South Devon Mainline extension Bonus scenario to Plymouth on the SDML, A technical drive over the South Devon Banks with intermediate stops at Totness and Newton Abbot.
Suggested Journeys Drive the following scenarios in the following order: London to Oxford D1b D2a London to Taunton D1a D3b D7 D8b Cardiff to London U5 U4 U3a U1a Exeter to London U10b U9 U7 U3a -U1a Weston Super mare to London U8a U7 U3b U1a Diverted London to Bristol D1a D3a D4 D6 Note: To retain stability and prevent CTDs it is advisable to close and restart TS between each scenario Caution: Do NOT save and then resume a scenario at a later date, skip missing stock by pressing F2 at the start of any scenario or press TAB at a red signal if you do this the scenario may not work as intended and it may cause game ending errors.
