Mr Henry Blundell established the Havelock Mail at the time of the Wakamarina gold rush. When the rush was over in February 1865 they removed to Wellington and established the Evening Post as a daily. Mr Curle withdrew from the venture leaving Mr Blundell to carry on with his three sons. In 1874 having realised a competence he handed the paper over to his sons, Messrs John, Henry Thomas and Louis Blundell. Mr H T Blundell died in Sydney in 1894 and since then the business has been carried on by the remaining members of the 2

He had nearly completed forty years service, and his death will be, deeply regretted by a very large circle of friends and acquaintances. In the earlier days of Wellington the late Mr Gibbes occupied a leading position in the athletic world. He was a prominent player in the ranks of the Wellington Football Club, and was also well known in the rowing world.
