2 2 Chamber International Background Dubai s economy has rocketed ahead in recent years, racking up impressive growth and making the Emirate a leading Arab success story. Government control and regulation of private sector activities has been kept to a minimum. There are no direct taxes on corporate profits or personal income (except for oil companies and branches of foreign banks). Customs duties are low at 4% with many exemptions, 100% repatriation of capital and profits is permitted, there are no foreign exchange controls, trade quotas or barriers. 3 Dubai 07 3 Market research Trade visit delegates may commission an OMIS (Overseas Market Introduction Service) report via Chamber International, who will propose a programme of support and advice that fits the level of service you have chosen. This workplan could include an analysis of possible market entry strategies, identification of possible business partners and preliminary exchanges with them on your behalf, and screening contacts for you to make during your visit. Research proposals will reflect local conditions and could include advice on competitors, local regulations, standards etc. There are eight levels of service visit our website www. cms.yorks.com for details. Companies who do not need OMIS services will have to provide an in-depth in-market business to business programme to Chamber International for the duration of the trade visit. In-market briefing The in-market programme will begin with a briefing from the British Embassy in Dubai, which will provide up to the minute information on business opportunities and market conditions. Attendance at the briefing is strongly recommended Reception The programme will include an evening reception hosted by Mr John Hawkins, Consul General, British Embassy- Dubai. Brochure We will be producing a brochure in English which will be distributed prior to your arrival. The brochure will include a brief profile of your company with a picture of your company s representative. The brochure is a very important tool to have prior to the visit as it allows our overseas partners to promote the incoming trade visit amongst their local contacts and attract them to meetings and receptions. It also allows potential customers to identify contacts whom they would particularly like to meet. It is important that the brochure is produced in good time and that each participant prepares a few lines setting out their objectives for the market to include in the brochure. An example of this might be: To find and appoint an agent in Dubai. Please see Attachment B which needs to be completed and submitted with your application form. Travel package We have partnered with Leeds-based travel agency, Traveleads, who have an excellent reputation for group business travel and is experienced in handling organised trade visit work. Traveleads has secured very competitive group rates and travel privileges on our behalf. If you wish to personalise your itinerary over and above the package we are offering, for example if you would like to upgrade or wish to arrange side visits to other markets, then please contact our travel agent direct (contact details in the Air Travel section). The trip was a valuable first step into the market and allowed us to look at the growth potential. 4 4 Chamber International Air travel Flights are based on economy class and the itinerary and costs quoted are correct according to information supplied to us by the travel agent at the time of printing, but may be subject to change. The inclusive package is based on an air fare with Etihad Airways - the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. Risks: Rabies and malaria exists all year throughout the country below 2,000 metres. Clearwater rarely gets bulk orders in the UK, but a typical order from Dubai will run to 300 baths. Our work out there has led to a number of other contracts in Africa, the Maldives and Singapore. 6 6 Chamber International Attachment A Terms and Conditions It is strongly recommended that participants attend the official briefing meeting in Dubai and pre-visit briefing to be held in Leeds week commencing 22 October Chamber International will assist in arranging business meetings on behalf of all participants. However, Chamber International will not be held responsible in the event that these meetings do not meet the expectations of the delegates or if they are postponed due to the failure of Dubai business representatives to keep appointments. Chamber International encourage all participating companies to provide as much information as possible relating to their hopes and aspirations for doing business in Dubai. The cost of the package does not include the preparation of tailored business meetings programme and applicants are strongly advised to request an overseas market introduction report via Chamber International (please see page 3 - Market Research).
