Suffolk Chamber Transport Board Greater Anglia 16 January 2018
Greater Anglia update GEML Taskforce NRPS Spring 2017 results Fleet reliability and refresh initiatives Timetable improvements New trains update New appointments Industrial relations update Infrastructure upgrade priorities
GEML Taskforce Created 2013 Reported back 2014 Initial co-chairs Mark Pendlington and Chloe Smith Effective campaigning on franchise specification Momentum slowed New parliamentary chair Will Quince, new business chair needed Renewed impetus needed at February meeting Infrastructure upgrades are the key priorities
NRPS Spring 2017 results Very good NRPS Spring 2017 results - GA overall satisfaction at 83%. Equal highest score ever (with Autumn 2012) and up 6% from 77% in Spring Satisfaction ratings in several categories have increased by double figure percentages. These include availability of staff at stations, provision of information during the journey, toilet facilities on trains and station facilities. Survey satisfaction for how station staff deal with customer requests has now reached 90%. Reflects significant investment in improvements to train reliability, station facilities, customer service - with an increase in training - and an extra focus on communications with customers, on trains, at stations and on our website. No complacency and keen to achieve further increases in future surveys.

Combined with our on-line public consultation (1000+ responses!), we have received some very useful feedback, much of which focussed on seating configurations, cycle parking provision, information screens, and luggage space. Paul Haynes, Community Partnerships Manager - responsible for directly managing our community rail partnerships and wider community relationships Rebecca Richardson, Schools Liaison and Accessibility Manager, responsible who for promoting rail travel and rail safety in schools and helping us improve our customer accessibility arrangements
Industrial relations RMT/role of conductors RMT has raised concerns over the future role of our conductors. Conductors operate on our intercity, rural and Colchester - Clacton line services. Meetings have been held with the RMT at which we emphasised our intention to retain conductors on those existing routes throughout our franchise term. We value the role our conductors undertake and the service they provide to our customers. This is why we are keeping conductors on our intercity, rural and Colchester - Clacton line services throughout our franchise. We are recruiting for and holding new conductor training courses across the year and will need more conductors when the new trains arrive as we will run more trains. We continue to actively engage with the RMT over this issue, but will continue to run a full service if further strike days take place.
Other initiatives More mobile, SMART and good value ticketing Railcard trial, Club 50 railcard launched Ticket vending machine roll out underway Stakeholder Advisory Board, Stakeholder Equality Board, Integrated Transport Forum More Community Rail Partnership funding
East Anglian rail infrastructure priorities Context Key schemes How you can help
Key infrastructure priorities - context Our plans offer huge benefits for customers, communities, business and the wider region But much more can be achieved if the rail infrastructure is upgraded too Need to work together to secure infrastructure upgrades to maximise the benefits New funding approach prevents five year gaps, but also risks projects being deferred or delayed No projects currently planned for Control Period 6 in East Anglia, other than completion of existing or deferred projects such as Crossrail and Felixstowe line upgrade
Key infrastructure priorities the schemes (1) GEML projects Haughley Jct doubling (also helps country links) Trowse swing bridge replaced with double track fixed bridge Loops south of Colchester Digital signalling Felixstowe Birmingham (cross country) projects Ely area Ely Soham doubling
Key infrastructure priorities the schemes (2) West Anglia projects Copper Mill Jct to Broxbourne 4-tracking as phase 1 of the Cross Rail 2 scheme Additional tracks and platforms to facilitate 4 trains an hour Angel Road to Stratford Other projects London Liverpool Street capacity Level crossing closures Plus works at Ely to enable Ipswich Peterborough hourly services, Cambridge South project, Beaulieu Park
