4 Blakes Crossing 7 Elaine in for the long haul 31 years may have come and gone but Lendlease s Elaine Reade still gets excited about every new customer she meets. Since joining the company in September 1985, Elaine has worked at Golden Grove (17 years), Mawson Lakes (8 years) and Blakes Crossing (5 years). We just love her dedication, professionalism and tenacity. Ms Reade says one of the best parts to her job is speaking with people embarking on buying life s most important purchase, a block of land and a house. I love helping them to attain the best they can, she said. I think Blakes Crossing is at a wonderful stage at the moment it has a lot on the ground and a lot to offer, it is very exciting. The Wall, a vision for hope, unity and honour is a wonderful new initiative by the year 6/7 students from Blakes Crossing Christian College. Whilst the students were studying the importance of aboriginal art, the students noted that there was not a presence of Aboriginal art within the public space at Blakes Crossing. Kelly Adams, the schools art teacher reached out to Lendlease with the students ideas to change this and proposed the perfect location. The recently opened Adventure Playground and the concrete retaining wall in this space was seen as the perfect canvas. The wall is seen directly from their classroom and school grounds, but a place where everyone from Blakes Crossing can also enjoy it. Lendlease loved the idea. Local, well-known Aboriginal artist Scott Rathman was delighted to be commissioned. Since July, he has been holding weekly workshops with the students and the art piece is taking shape. Scott and the students will transform the wall in mid-october. Scott Rathman is a South Australian artist who is proud of his Aboriginal past which is represented in his work today and seen on many walls around the City of Playford and in Gawler. Scott s family is a descendant of the Aranda people of Central Australia. 12 Blakes Crossing 23 The new Adventure Playground YOUR NEWEST COMMUNITY ASSET IS HERE Mayor of the City of Playford, Glenn Docherty, officially opened the northern corridor s newest community asset the Blakes Crossing Adventure Playground and neighborhood oval on Sunday 1st May, With over 5000 people attending the celebrations, the day was a huge success and the start of the inaugural Blakes Crossing Auskick football. The new neighborhood oval three quarters the size of Adelaide Oval has 12,000m 2 of newly laid lawn, ready for the community to enjoy. The adjacent Adventure Playground integrates play elements with a major fitness station so parents can exercise while they watch the kids play. A walking track around the oval creates an outdoor gym, linking to more equipment along the shared path in Blue Tongue Linear Reserve. Lendlease s Regional Development Manager for the Communities business in South Australia, Damien Collins, said local interest in the new facilities had been high. The feedback has been very positive, particularly around the finishes, especially the lush new turf on the oval, he said. We believe kids, and kids at heart belong at the new oval and playground. The playground, designed and built by Outside Ideas includes a giant birds nest swing, three in-ground trampolines, and all-abilities carousel, flying fox, musical orbs and climbing wall. The design creates a balance between nature and traditional elements that provide a range of play and sensory experiences. Coupled with a focus on sensory play such as musical elements and natural textures, it is a unique space for the whole community to enjoy. Timber logs, scrambling boulders and balance beams are combined with shelter, seating and BBQ facilities, lawn areas for picnics and shade sails for ample sun protection. Brand new childcare facilities Blakes Crossing is very fortunate to have a brand new early education and care facility. Our local resident and Stepping Stone SA Centre Director Katherine says the families in Blakes Crossing and surrounding suburbs love to come here, the children have so much fun whilst enjoying educational experiences at the same time. All families are welcome to visit the centre and have a look around. The centre is open from 6:30am 6:30pm, Monday Friday.
