1 Keynote Speaker PHILIP GRAHAM, HEAD OF SECRETARIAT, UK AIRPORTS COMMISSION Philip Graham is Head of the Airports Commission Secretariat. The Airports Commission, chaired by Sir Howard Davies, is tasked with providing an assessment of the options for meeting the UK s international connectivity needs, and recommending an optimum approach to meeting any need, by summer Prior to joining the Commission Philip was the Head of the team developing the Department for Transport s high speed rail strategy. He has previously worked for the Department for Transport on rail reform, transport security and as Private Secretary to the Secretary of State. Speakers DANIEL CARNELLY, ENVIRONMENT DIRECTOR FOR CUSTOMER AFFAIRS, AIRBUS Daniel Carnelly is currently the Marketing Director responsible for environmental and technological issues within the Customer Affairs Directorate of Airbus Headquarters in Toulouse, France. This role reflects the importance of environmental performance to airline customers globally, be it noise, CO2 or other aircraft emissions. He is also an active participant in the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Committee for Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) Working Group 3, whose task is to establish a global certification standard for civil aviation CO2 emissions. the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the Philippines, Taiwan and South Korea. His current role began in 2010 and has led to many opportunities to work with governments as well as customers and competitors when deciding on new, global, aviation legislation. Daniel continues to sit on the Industry Advisory Group at his alma mater, providing input to BEng and MEng course content. PIERRE CAUSSADE, DIRECTOR, ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS, AIR FRANCE Pierre is a graduate of the French Ecole Polytechnique and the French Civil Aviation National School. Pierre Caussade started out with DGAC, the French Civil Aviation Authority, before moving to Aeroports de Paris, the Paris Airports authority. After joining Air France in 1979, he occupied a range of company executive positions in operations and the general management: in particular Station Manager, VP Flight Operations and VP Corporate Quality. In October 2006, he was appointed Senior VP Environment and Sustainable Development. Within the International Air Transport Association (IATA), after representing Air France on the Operations Committee, between 1996 and 2006, he is presently member of the Environment Committee. With a BEng (Hons) degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire, Daniel began his career at Airbus in 1998 within Customer Services defining postdelivery modifications to aircraft cabins, fuel and navigation systems and certification documentation. In 2000 he joined the A320 marketing team before working within the commercial team responsible for selling Airbus aircraft in
2 JONATHON COUNSELL, HEAD OF ENVIRONMENT, BRITISH AIRWAYS AND CHAIR OF SUSTAINABLE AVIATION Jonathon was appointed BA s Head of Environment in December 2007 with responsibility for developing and implementing BA s strategy on all issues relating to the Environment including Climate Change, Air Quality, Noise and Waste. Previously to this appointment Jonathon was Head of T5 Development where he was responsible for ensuring that the BA investment of 330m in T5 was built on-time, on-budget and on-specification. This infrastructure was successfully completed and handed to the Heathrow Operation in November He joined the airline in October 1999 where he was appointed General Manager of Procurement Strategy with responsibility for developing and implementing the strategy to deliver BA s Procurement function to best practice performance. Prior to British Airways he worked in a number of positions in the airline industry most recently as General Manager, Strategy at Air New Zealand which included responsibilities for developing the airline s network and alliance strategy. Jonathon is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College and has an MBA from INSEAD. IAN FLINDELL, INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT AND PART TIME LECTURER, INSTITUTE OF SOUND AND VIBRATION RESEARCH, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON Ian Flindell is widely known across Europe as an Independent Acoustic Consultant and Part-time Teacher and Researcher at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton. He has been interested in subjective acoustics for many years and contributed to WHO guidelines, European Directives, airport public inquiries, etc. He has co-authored major aircraft noise assessment projects such as the DfT s ANASE aircraft noise study in 2005/6, and is currently engaged in mainly qualitative research CARRIE HARRIS, HEAD OF ATM ENVIRONMENT, NATS Carrie joined NATS as Head of ATM Environment in April She has led the Operations Environment Group to develop NATS ATM Environment Plan setting out how NATS intends to achieve its stretching CO2 efficiency target by With a focus on ATM operational performance, Carrie works closely with the airspace efficiency teams at Swanwick, Prestwick and the NATS UK airport units to improve performance through environmentally efficient air traffic management procedures and airspace design. Carrie also leads NATS Environmental Awareness Programme and represents NATS at the UK industry coalition Sustainable Aviation (SA) where she sits on the SA Working Group and Chairs the Operational Improvements Group. GEORGIANA HIBBERD, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR RESIDENTIAL, ROYAL INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SURVEYORS Georgiana has been a Chartered Surveyor for 27 years. Georgiana started her career in estate agency but spent the majority of her working life with the Valuation Office Agency valuing all classes of property for capital taxation purposes and for major asset valuations including for the MOD. Georgiana has worked for the RICS for the last six years dealing with residential issues including amongst other things producing standards for estate agents.
3 ANDY JEFFERSON, PROGRAMME DIRECTOR, SUSTAINABLE AVIATION Andy has a passion for finding how we secure a sustainable future for the aviation industry. He is currently the Programme Director for Sustainable Aviation. Sustainable Aviation brings together the UK aviation industry to deliver a long term strategy to ensure a sustainable future for the industry. He is currently focussing on supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Aviation CO2 and Noise Road-Maps. Prior to this, he spent over 15 years working in the UK aviation industry with London Stansted Airport and before this with a number of UK airlines including Buzz, KLM UK and Air UK. During this time he held a range of senior management roles in airport and airline sustainability, planning and operations. He holds a PhD from Cranfield University following research in how to maintain regional airline access to congested European airports and has a BSc Hons in Geography from Loughborough University. KATE JENNINGS, HEAD OF AVIATION POLICY IMPLEMENTATION, UK DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT Kate is currently responsible for aviation noise and consumer policy, aviation spectrum release, and governance issues including the DfT relationship with the Civil Aviation Authority. Her previous roles include Head of European Division in DfT, and Head of Better Regulation Strategy Division in the Cabinet Office. She formerly worked in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office including a posting to Beijing where she worked on the return of Hong Kong to China. TIM JOHNSON, DIRECTOR, AVIATION ENVIRONMENTAL FEDERATION Tim is the Director of the UK-based environmental nongovernmental organisation, the Aviation Environment Federation (AEF). Founded in 1975, the AEF is concerned specifically with civil aviation s environmental effects and is a membership body comprising over 100 community and environmental groups. AEF is a leading member of the International Coalition for Sustainable Aviation (ICSA), set up to represent the international environmental NGOs as an Observer to the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Tim has over twenty years expertise in the aviation and environmental field. He has been Director of the AEF since 1997, having first joined the organisation in He recently participated in the South East Airports Taskforce and is Chair of the Advisory Panel of the UK aviation industry s Sustainable Aviation initiative. On behalf of ICSA, Tim plays an active role in the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), chairing ICAO s carbon calculator task force, and is currently participating in the market-based measures Expert Group. ANDREW KEMPTON, CHIEF SPECIALIST, ROLLS ROYCE Dr Andrew Kempton, FRAeS, is Chief Noise Specialist and Associate Fellow at Rolls-Royce, and has worked on reducing aircraft noise for the past forty years. He is a Visiting Professor at Southampton University where he coordinates research at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in aircraft noise. He contributes to many international committees including ICAO s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection that sets standards for aircraft noise, European and UK networks that coordinate research into aircraft noise, and the UK Sustainable Aviation Aircraft Noise Working Group.
4 GUNTER LANZ, CEO, ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITY CENTRE, ECC Gunter attended the State University of Applied Science Schotten from 1970 until From 1986 until 2000, he worked as an Executive Officer at the Ministry for Environment, Energy, Agriculture and Consumer Protection where he specialised in environmental planning, support programs for SME s and municipalities and evaluation of project proposals under the EU Environment Program Life II and III (LIFE-Environment, LIFE-third-country). Following this, from 2000 to 2009, he started the role of Desk Officer, Interim Head of Division Environmental Policy, Sustainable Development, Intern Cooperation, Land use Planning at the Ministry. Since 2009, Gunter has been the Chief Executive Officer at the Environment and Communication Center specialising in information and communication about Frankfurt Airport environmental, social, health and economic influence to the region by operating several monitoring systems (Noise, Environment), information systems by internet and more. SEAN NEWSUM, DIRECTOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY, BOEING Sean Newsum is the Director of Environmental Strategy for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Sean is responsible for managing Boeing s global strategy for the environment, including its efforts on sustainable aviation biofuels. He also has responsibilities for representing Boeing with key industry bodies including the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP). Sean has been with Boeing for over 20 years, after starting his career in Noise Engineering, he has been fulfilling a variety of roles in Program Management, Marketing, and Business Development for various business units. A native of Washington State, Sean obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, as well as his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Washington. GEOFF MAYNARD, GREENER BY DESIGN COMMITTEE, Geoff Maynard has spent over 30 years working in the Transport Industry, the last 15 in Aviation and now working for Altra Capital a leading specialist firm of aviation and transport consultants. Minimising the environmental impacts of aviation is a key part of all aviation work today and Geoff has combined his professional work with Chairmanship of the Operations Group of Greener by Design. His particular interests include noise and airport access. Currently Geoff is advising the Saudi Arabian Government on the introduction of private capital into various aspects of Government activities. Geoff was educated at Norwich School and Queens College, Cambridge. DARREN RHODES, HEAD OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY DEPARTMENT, CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY Darren Rhodes graduated from Loughborough University in 1993 with an honours degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Following this he conducted research work in aircraft design, noise modelling and noise abatement operating procedures at Loughborough University between 1993 and 1997 and obtained a PhD for aircraft noise research in In 1997 he joined the CAA s Environmental Research & Consultancy Department, where he became Project Manager of Aircraft Noise Model Development and International Studies, before, in 2012, becoming Head of Department. Darren acts as a technical advisor to the DfT on a number international committees including ICAO s Committee for Aviation Environmental Protection and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) A-21 Aircraft Noise Committee. He currently chairs the European AIRMOD task group, responsible for the development of aircraft noise models and guidance on their application within ECAC s 42 member states.
5 Chairmen ROS HOWELL, GREENER BY DESIGN COMMITTEE, Ros has spent over forty years in the aerospace industry in a career encompassing military, defence, civil and local government sectors. She has been a Controller, Instructor, Operations Executive, Project Director and Strategist in a career spanning the Royal Air Force, IAL, British Aerospace, CAA/NATS and, finally, local government. Being interested in local politics, Ros joined West Sussex County Council as their Aviation Strategist, developing policy advice in respect of the aerodromes Goodwood, Shoreham and Gatwick - in the county. Ros is currently the Independent Technical Adviser to the Gatwick Airport Consultative Committee. ROGER WILTSHIRE, GREENER BY DESIGN COMMITTEE, In 2000, following a thirty year career at British Airways, Roger Wiltshire became Secretary General at the British Air Transport Association (BATA). He represented the UK-registered airlines during the next ten years, a period which saw key developments in the airlines and broader aviation industry s environmental strategy, including the establishment of the Sustainable Aviation initiative in the UK. BATA was an early member of Greener by Design and, following his retirement in 2010, Roger re-joined GbD Executive Committee and continues to take a keen interest in the issue of aviation and the environment. JEFF JUPP, GREENER BY DESIGN COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN, Jeff Jupp graduated from Queens College Cambridge in 1964 with first class honours in Aeronautical Engineering. Following twenty years in civil aircraft aerodynamic wing design at Hawker Siddeley Aviation Hatfield, mainly on the HS146 feeder liner and the Airbus A310, he moved with the Airbus project to British Aerospace at Filton, Bristol. He was Chief Engineer for the Common Wing for the A330/A340 aircraft and became Engineering Director in 1993 responsible for the teams working mainly on wing development and support work for all Airbus aircraft, as well as Concorde support, retiring in December He was awarded the Royal Aeronautical Society Gold Medal in He still assists Airbus, and is currently Visiting Professor at the University of Bath, a Non-Executive Director of Cranfield Aerospace Ltd. and Chairman of the Royal Aeronautical Society Air Travel - Greener By Design Group.
