5 GATWICK AIRPORT Gatwick is the world s busiest single-runway airport and the second largest UK airport after Heathrow serving approximately 34 million passengers each year and flying to over 200 destinations. In order to maximise business originating from the European Union a second runway has been proposed as part of plans to increase the UK s airport capacity by The second runway is one of three options shortlisted by the Airports Commission.
