(itinerary subject to change) Day 1 Friday, October 9 Boston We board our bus and depart from the Newark Hilton Gateway at 8:00am arriving at our first destination, Cambridge, MA in time for lunch and a tour of The Harvard Art Museums. The recent renovation and expansion designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano creates a stunning new glass space under a pyramid-shaped roof integrating three separate Harvard art museums the Fogg, Busch-Reisinger, and Arthur M. Sackler into a dynamic whole. We have docent-led tours that take us through each collection: the Fogg Museum, renowned for its holdings of Western paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, photographs, prints, and drawings from the Middle Ages to the present; the Busch Reisinger Museum the only museum in North America dedicated to the study of art from the German-speaking countries of Central and Northern Europe including significant works of Austrian Secession art and German Expressionism and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum with its important collections of Asian art, most notably, archaic Chinese jades (the widest collection outside of China) and Japanese woodblock prints. We leave Cambridge and check in at our hotel, the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel, located in Newton, Massachusetts on 22 acres of scenic riverfront land along the Charles River. Tonight we enjoy a Welcome Dinner. (L/D) Day 2 Saturday, October 10 Boston Today's exploration starts at Boston s renowned Museum of Fine Arts focusing on the stunning new wing which showcases more than 5,000 works of art produced in North, Central, and South America over the course of three millennia. Our docent-led tour will take us through some of the wing's brand-new galleries that include beautiful period rooms and Behind the Scenes galleries. Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the museum s cafes. After lunch we visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and see the new wing also designed by architect Renzo Piano. Isabella Stewart Gardner collected and carefully displayed a collection of world importance and inventively built the museum to evoke a 15th-century Venetian palace. Our evening starts with dinner and then we head to Symphony Hall to hear a performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Andris Nelsons will conduct a program of Currier, Beethoven and Brahms featuring pianist Paul Lewis. (B/D)

2 Day 3 Sunday, October 11 Gloucester We take a short drive to Gloucester, MA, home to America s original seaport and the oldest working art colony in North America. With its picturesque waterfront and beautiful scenery it has drawn fisherman, artists and visitors for over four hundred years. We are joined by a local guide to drive The Rocky Neck Historic Art Trail which takes us to twelve sites of art historic significance in one of America s most visually arresting locales. With its scenic views and humble waterfront buildings, this spit of land measuring less than one square mile and separating Gloucester harbor from Smith s Cove, has since the early 19th century beckoned a steady stream of painters, sculptors and writers. Regarded by many to be America s Oldest Working Art Colony, the artists enclave at Rocky Neck during the period from 1850 to 1950 attracted a number of the most important realist painters in the annals of American art. The Trail enables us to walk in the footsteps of Winslow Homer, Fitz Henry Lane, Augustus Buhler, Frank Duveneck, Marsden Hartley, Edward Hopper and a host of other pioneering American artists. We will see first-hand the iconic land and seascapes that gave rise to their illustrious artistic output. We return to Boston Marriott Newton Hotel for dinner and evening entertainment (TBA). (B/L/D) Day 4 Monday, October 12 Boston After breakfast we check out of the hotel and visit the JFK Presidential Library. Housed in a striking I.M Pei building on Boston s waterfront we have time to visit at your own pace to experience the recreated world of the Kennedy Presidency. Take time to view a new exhibit In Her Voice: Jacqueline Kennedy, the White House Years, highlighting Mrs. Kennedy's 1964 oral history interview, sealed for 47 years. We continue to the Institute of Contemporary Art for a docent-led tour of its collection of national and international artworks in a range of styles and media representing the very best art being made today. We will have time to visit the special exhibition Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College We lunch nearby before departing for Newark. (Estimated return: 700pm.) (B/L)
