10 Pre-clear immigration and fly on to six major US / Canadian cities New York Chicago Boston Orlando San Francisco Toronto Dublin Groningen Newquay Antwerp Munster Osnabruck Rennes Caen London Southend Airport is the fastest growing in Europe London Southend Airport saw a 57.1% increase in its passenger numbers from 2012 to 2013, that s the largest growth of any European airport. The survey of over 300 airports across Europe was compiled by the industry leading website Airline Network News & Analysis (anna aero). The figures show that the Which? Best Airport in Britain had 617,556 passengers in 2012 and 969,950 in 2013, giving it the largest percentage increase. In second place was Diyarbakir in Turkey with a 38.7% increase. After London Southend, the next best performing London airport in the survey was London City in 46th place with a 12% increase. The airport has recently added five new European routes to its growing list of destinations they fly to. Flybe will now operate flights to Antwerp, Rennes, Caen, Groningen and Munster-Osnabruck, in addition to the Newquay flights which were announced in January. 11 London Southend Airport terminal extension now open The 10 million extension to the London Southend Airport terminal is now open for business. The terminal building has become 90 metres longer. A new Arrivals area has enhanced baggage reclaim facilities and additional space for immigration as well as a dedicated domestic arrivals route. The amount of space for passengers in the security area has increased, as well the number of check in desks / baggage drop off points there is also a new covered walkway directly connecting the train station and terminal (just 100 paces apart). The Departure Lounge has increased 4.5 times in size to enhance the experience for passengers relaxing and awaiting boarding after security. Retail and catering facilities will be expanded throughout the terminal over time in order to provide a much wider range of shops and services available to passengers. Back of the jet! It was a proud moment for London Southend Airport when it was chosen to be the destination to bring the 2014 FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola into the UK. The iconic trophy is on a 267 day journey, visiting 88 countries, which began in Rio de Janeiro on 12 th September Departing from the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, the FIFA World Cup Trophy is travelling 149, km (92, miles) before returning to the country that will host the 2014 FIFA World Cup: Brazil. The specially painted MD83 airliner - which is covered with striking FIFA World Cup trophy artwork - arrived at Stobart Executive Handling on 12 th March, from Le Bourget in France. It departed for Glasgow on 15 th March on the next leg of the world tour. 11
