1 June 2014 Version 2 STRATHCLYDE COUNTRY PARK Essential Venue Guide Amid the picturesque surroundings of Strathclyde Country Park, the calm waters of Strathclyde Loch and network of pathways around it will test the Triathlon athletes to the limits of their endurance.
2 At Strathclyde Country Park For everyone s safety and enjoyment of the event, all spectators will pass through an airport style screening process for prohibited and restricted items before being allowed into venues. Facilities Advice Regulations Important information Spectator Information Point, including induction hearing loop and Lost & Found service for people and property. Wheelchair loan and wheelchair pushing service. Pushchair storage. Accessible and Changing Places toilets. Assistance dog spending & water area. First Aid. Merchandise, food & drink kiosks and free water filling stations. There will be no cloakroom facility. However, Triathlon is an outdoor event, with no shelter from sun or rain, so please dress appropriately. The terrain will be steep and uneven in places, requiring sturdy footwear and careful walking. Cash only payments will be accepted at food & drink kiosks (NB no ATM/cashback facility available). Merchandise kiosks accept cash, VISA and MasterCard. Plan your journey now. Make sure you know how to reach the venue and allow plenty of time for travel, queuing systems at transport hubs, and security checks. Entry gates will open 90 minutes before competition begins. Aim to be seated 30 minutes before the session start time. Arrive in plenty of time to allow for security and ticket checks. Please keep your ticket with you at all times. It is not possible to leave the Strathclyde Country Park venue then re-enter make sure you bring everything you need (e.g. medication, nappies etc). Do your bit for the environment take your rubbish home or recycle it in the bins provided. Assistance dogs are permitted, but pets may not be brought inside the venue. Cycles and other wheeled vehicles (with the exception of mobility aids) may not be brought inside the venue. Bringing a bag may slow down your entry to ticketed areas. Each spectator is permitted one small, soft sided bag no larger than 25 litres (equivalent to 30 x 20 x 20 cm/12 x 8 x 8 ). Children under the age of two years on 23 July 2014 will not require a ticket. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and may not enter the venue alone. Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is not permitted within any Games venue. This includes any open air space within the venue perimeter. Smoking is discouraged immediately outside venues. Alcohol can be purchased from the food & drink kiosks, but may not be brought into the venue from outside. All containers of liquids, aerosols or gels except sunscreen (200ml) and non-alcoholic drinks (500ml) must be 100ml or under in volume. You can bring a plastic water bottle of 500ml or under. The following items will not be permitted within ticketed areas of Strathclyde Country Park: cans; glass; horns, vuvuzelas or similar items; flags of non-participating causes, affiliations or organisations; all photographic equipment over 30cm in length, including tripods and monopods; golf style umbrellas, large bags, coolbags and picnic hampers. The following items are prohibited and illegal under Scottish law: knives; firearms; ammunition; explosives; toxic or irritant chemicals; CS spray; illegal drugs and similar substances. 3 Travelling to Strathclyde Country Park Approximately 12 miles from George Square (Glasgow City Centre) Glasgow 2014 is a public transport Games. Plan your Games Time journeys using the Traveline Scotland Journey Planning App: travelinescotland.com On the day for which it is valid, your event ticket will entitle you to access ScotRail services, Subway services (in Glasgow) and many bus services in the local area. In Glasgow, this includes services within the SPT Zonecard area G1 G8 of the Glasgow public transport network, with an extension for Triathlon spectators. Further details are available at glasgow2014.com/transport Limited parking for Blue Badge holders and wheelchair users is available near the venue. It s free and will soon be pre-bookable on a first-come, first-served basis at glasgow2014.com/accessibility An Accessible Shuttle bus service for those with restricted mobility will be available from Motherwell Station, as detailed below, and must also be pre-booked at glasgow2014.com/accessibility An accessible buggy service will transport spectators with restricted mobility from the accessible parking area and accessible shuttle bus stop to the venue. Accessible taxis can drop off passengers at the accessible parking area for pick-up by the buggy. Amazonia This indoor tropical rainforest is home to all sorts of creatures, from monkeys and parrots to snakes and tarantulas, Entertaining and educational for all ages, it s part of an entertainment venue at Strathclyde Country Park which offers a variety of family attractions. Chatelherault Country Park The 500 acres of this country park include an adventure playground and picnic area. The restored house, built in 1732 as a summer house for the Duke of Hamilton, is now a visitor centre with gift shop, café and interactive exhibitions. David Livingstone Centre Scotland s most famous explorer was born here at Blantyre. This historic attraction is packed with items relating to his travels in Africa, some in countries which are now part of the Commonwealth. It also gives a fascinating insight into the living and working conditions of nineteenth century Scotland. The centre has a café and is surrounded by woodland walks.
