1 London is one of the greatest citiesin Europe and in the whole world. I am fascinated with its culture, architecture, history and people. 2 What makes London a great city? London is the capital of the United Kingdom and the biggest city in the European Union. It is one of the world s business, financial and cultural centres. Many major global companies have their headquarters in the City of London. London contains alsofour World Heritage sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the area comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich.

At London's core is the small, ancient City of London which is commonly known as "The City" or "Square Mile". Greater London covers an area of 609 square miles (1,579 km²), making it the 37th largest urban area in the world.the City of London is approximately one square mile (2.6 km²) in area. The metropolitan area of London is large and includes 5 international airports (Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick, City and Luton).

13 Tower of London The Tower of London is one of London's most popular tourist attractions.itwasbuiltby William the Conqueror in the early 1080s. It was a fortress, palace and prison. The collection of Crown Jewels gathered in thetower of London encouragestouriststo seethisplace. The Crown Jewelsare displayed to millions of visitors every year, guarded by Yeomen Warders ( Beefeaters ) in the Tower of London.

16 Palace of Westminster The official name of Parliament in the United Kingdom, the Palace of Westminster is home to the House of Lords and the House of Commons. It islocatedon the north bank of the River Thamesin the heart of the London borough of the City of Westminster. Youmayvisitthe interior in summer only, when Parliament is not in session.

19 Big Ben Big Benis one of London's best-known landmarksand one of thesymbolsof thecity. Itis the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. The bell was named after the first commissioner of works, Sir Benjamin Hall.

21 Westminster Abbey The history of the abbey starts in 1050, when King Edward The Confessor decided to build an abbey. Westminster Abbeyislocated near the Houses of Parliamentand itis more a historical site than a religious one. Since 1066 every royal coronation, with the exception of Edward V and Edward VIII has taken place in Westminster Abbey. The abbey also serves as the burial ground for numerous politicians, sovereigns and artists. There are many abbey tombs, statues and monuments. 24 The National Gallery The National Gallery in London was founded in 1824 and ithasa rich collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900 in its home on Trafalgar Square. Its collection belongs to the public of the United Kingdom and entry to the main collection (exceptfor some special exhibitions) is free of charge.

27 British Museum The British Museum is a museum of human history and culture in London. It has collections, which number more than seven million objects. 31 St. Paul scathedral St Paul's Cathedral is an Anglicancathedral dedicated to Paul the Apostle. It islocatedat the top of LudgateHill, the highest point in the City of London, and is the seat of the Bishop of London. The present building dates back to the 17th century and was designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

34 ROYAL ALBERT HALL The Royal Albert Hall is one of the greatest concert halls in the world. Since its opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world's most famous artists have appeared on its stage. Each year it hosts more than 350 performances including classical concerts, rock and pop, ballet and opera, tennis, award ceremonies, school and community events.

36 Trafalgar Square Trafalgar Square is a square in central London, situatedin the heart of thecity. Trafalgar Squareis a tourist attraction, and one of the most famous squares in the United Kingdom and the world. Nelson's Columnstandingatitscentreis guarded by four lions. The square is also used as a location for political demonstrations and community gatherings, such as the celebration of New Year's Eve in London.

39 Madame Tussauds Madame Tussaudsis a major tourist attraction located in Central London, not far from the undegroundstationon Baker street. It is famous for recreating famous people, or celebrities, in wax. It was set up by wax sculptormarie Tussaud.

41 London Eye TheLondon Eye is a huge135-metre tall Ferris wheelsituated on the banks of the River Thamesin London. Yougo upand down again intwenty minutes.
