1 Dear Friends, Here is a continuation of our second family trip around the world. Starting from Edmonton (Canada), after three flights with small and big airplanes and tons of movies, we arrived to our next destination: Spain. Our friend Pablo from Granada picked us up at Malaga airport and drove us to their apartment in the town of Almuñecar on the Mediterranean coast one-hour drive from Malaga. We spent there next five days 1

2 Almuñecar Sun, heat, sea, pool and Mediterranean food - we could not ask for a better welcome back to Europe. Thank you so much, Pablo and Asún! The apartment was fantastic with a sea view, 1 minute away from the pool and 2 minutes away from the beach And we had 5 days ahead of us without any commitments fully flexible to adjust to the summer and Spanish siesta. 4 One day we went to the water park in Almuñecar. After 6 hours of floating in the water, sliding and running under the blazing sun, Philip and I had enough of the water and sun, but kids did not So we stayed in the water park until it closed at 6 pm that day It was a great fun for everyone! 5 And the joy of living in the Mediterranean area: hot summer evenings, tons of great food, chiringuitos (small beachside restaurants), ice cream My soul felt at home It was a wonderful 5-6 days of Mediterranean vacation time finally with some rest and quiet time that I was craving so much - before we moved onto new Spanish adventures for the following four weeks. On the last day, Palma came from Granada to pick us up and take us (and our suitcases) to Granada Philip and kids were staying there while Palma and I travelled to a conference in Barcelona next morning 5

6 Barcelona The joy of academia and tourism! A scientific conference in Barcelona was a wonderful excuse to travel for the first time with my colleague and friend Palma from Granada to visit this amazing city again. So here are a few photos from the academic part of my visit to Barcelona 6

7 Now the tourist part: magic of art and history in Barcelona I visited Barcelona briefly with my brother in 1998 and for a week in 2006 so I had a good idea of the places to visit in this amazing city. In Barcelona, I had a wonderful surprise meeting with my brother and his family on their way to Granada where we were about to meet two days earlier. Thank you so much for this great surprise, Boky, Sanja, Sergej and Katarina! 7

Conference was ok sufficiently good excuse for this travel, but the company on this trip was fantastic! This trip was one of the rare times that someone else organized my airplane ticket and accommodation on my behalf. I was in great hands of my worldtraveller friend Palma from Granada. Thank you so much for everything, Palma! It was a huge help and it meant a world to me in that moment After five days in Barcelona, we boarded a 2-hour flight and returned to Granada 11
