1 ALVAH AND FORGLEN COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING FORGLEN HALL: TUESDAY 26 JUNE 2018 MINUTES Website: Facebook: 1. Present. Minutes of Previous Meeting The minutes of the previous meeting held on 29 May were accepted as a true record. 4. Matters Arising (a) History of Alvah and Forglen. Ongoing action with Liz Jones. (b) Signs at Forglen Graveyard. Roads Department had agreed to put up new signs. (c) Commission Aberdeen Archives. Archives had waived payment. 5. Community Police. The Police were unable to attend due to prior commitments. 6. Floral Displays and Public Amenity Areas. Carol reported that the new tubs had been placed and planted out. 7. Rural Broadband The Secretary reported that R100 was in competitive dialogue with 4 potential contractors, and that contracts would not be placed before the end of the year. He would keep in touch with R100 to keep Alvah and Forglen in the frame.

2 8. Deuchries Wind Farm Fund Caroline Jones reported that the selection meeting had been very well organised and that all decisions had been unanimous. Most bids were approved and the only ones refused had failed to meet the qualifying criteria. 9. Planning. (a) APP/2017/2942 Westside of Forglen. (i) The Secretary reported that that the application would be heard by the ISC on 23 August in Aberdeen. (ii) Secretary would forward administrative details to all who wished to speak or attend. (b) APP/2017/3158 Campsite at Forglen. The Secretary reported that the council had requested more time to consider the AFCC complaint. 10. Forglen Window. Secretary reported that: Window commissioned and installed by Clayton and Bell in Ardmiddle House in RC Caw donated it to Forglen Hall in Robert Collier Caw was a Glaswegian born in 1870, who was most probably a tea planter in India. Caw moved into Ardmiddle at the end of 1923 and auctioned the contents of the house in November Throughout the 30s Caw and his wife travelled exensively by ship to Europe and South America. Maud died in 1942 aged 47 and Robert died at Ardmiddle in 1950 aged 80. The estate was sold by auction and the house and woodlands bought by Riddoch timber merchants. The house was demolished in It would appear that Margrave Estates bought the estate then sold it off in packages. Unfortunately no record of the other window. However, enough history to start fundraising. 11. Arts Group. (i) Barbara reported that she had received funding from Deuchries Windfarm. The funding was for start-up costs and the group would be self-financing in the future. (ii) A children s puppet show had been booked for 29 September at Forglen Hall. (iii) The Great Caberet Safari had been booked for 5 October at Alvah Hall. (iv) A Murder Mystery would be booked at a suitable date. (v) Mike Dewhurst agreed to be Treasurer of the Arts Group.

3 12. Any Other Business (a) 35 Bus Route (i) Lorna Kennedy explained that: On 8th January 2018 the 35 bus timetable was changed and the route of one bus time was altered. Previously an early bus in Turriff did not go by ARI, but instead went straight in -along Berryden Road and round by John Street, along the side of the Cowdray Hall, along Union Terrace and down Bridge Street to the bus station. This was convenient for shoppers and students alike, the latter getting off in John Street. Since 8th January that bus also goes via ARI and the last stop before the bus station is at Skene Square on the dual carriageway which is not convenient for many of the passengers. On the return journey, the first stop after leaving the bus station is beyond Woolmanhill as the bus no longer goes along Union Terrace. It would be more convenient if at least one bus stopped in Union Street to allow shoppers the opportunity to shop in Union Street, St Nicholas Centre and the Bon Accord Centre without having to climb back up from the bus station? Even an extra stop on the current route would be helpful. There is a convenient pull -in on the Denburn right beside steps leading to Belmont Street. (ii) Cllr. Roy explained that Stagecoach had evaluated such a change in the past but decided that it was not commercially viable. Aberdeenshire Council has no influence on this route as it does not subsidise it. (iii) It was agreed that the secretary should write to Stagecoach asking to reinstate the early bus stops. (b) Accident in Bogton (i) The Chairman reported that there had been a bad accident at the crossroads at Bogton Back Lane and Penelope Fields. Two vans had collided and the drivers were taken to hospital. (ii) It was agreed that the secretary should request the council to refresh the stop lines on the roads and perhaps install stop signs. [Secretary s Note: Council agreed to refresh lines and look at erecting stop signs.] (c) Strawberry Fair. Liz reported that there would be a strawberry fair at Alvah Hall on 4 July. 13.Date of Next Meeting The next meeting will be held at Alvah Parish Hall at hours on 31July 2018.
