2 THE ABTO GAZETTE ABTO President s Message November, 2016 November President s Message Well, this has been the busiest October for Kris and I in the last decade. The event of the month was our granddaughter Brandie s wedding in Jacksonville, Texas. Just a short 1,250 miles drive, each way. The ceremony was performed under a big oak tree on the family ranch. She is now Mrs. Barrett Lowe. They are now returning to Tucson and returning to work after a honeymoon in Mexico. After a record breaking 100 degrees on Saturday the temp is returning to normal, and I am starting to install my new turntable and round house on my layout. Next will be completing my mine on the mountain on my mining loop and then much more. We will be present at the Superstition Mountain Historical Society Grand Opening on Saturday, the 19 th from 10am until 3:00pm. Then at 4:15pm our monthly meeting at Jim and Joann Gardner s. Always a pleasing get together. Don t forget to sign up for our Christmas Dinner on December 4 th and must be paid by November 19. We still need some homes for our monthly meeting in May, June, September and November are available. 7 THE ABTO GAZETTE COH 16 This year for the Christmas Open Houses, ABTO received the official okay to open the layout at CCMC for the annual show. Since the security at the hospital is quite tight, we decided to have Roy Towne check on the availability of the layout. It was passed by the administration with flying colors. Don Halver is coordinator for staffing, while Roy Towne works down at the hospital three or four days a week on maintenance & trains. Many club members of ABTO are scheduled to clean track, dusting and etc., maybe one or two times per month. ABTO felt the layout should be on the COH 16 tour, as it has since the baptism of the train layout a few years ago. Any club members who would like to volunteer for an assignment at the layout could contact Don Halver. This year s show won t have two loyal layouts in the tour. Dorothy and Jack Johnson & Dana and Dennis Busby are taking their layouts out of their yards or already have. They will be missed by the regular patrons of Christmas Open House Tours. We want to thank both families for all of their help, loyalty and assistance in our COH program. These layouts will be greatly missed by the club too. The schedule is still the same for many of the layouts: Dec. 10th, 11th,17th & 18th from 5:30-8:30 each day. Participants for the main schedule are: John & Pat Meyers, Jim & Joanne Gardner, Terry & Adrienne Haas, Rich & Sharon Hull, David & Sharon Kitchin, Steve & Judy Lewis, Don Sorenson & Karen Lenzen, Gary & Cheryl Bang, Terry & Carolyn Fields, Wesley & Allison Schriver plus Fred and Pat Olds. Dennis & Lizabeth Sirrine s layout is open on Dec. 9th, 10th, 16th & 17th from 5:30-8:30. Catch the video and other information on: azbigtrains.org 7
