2 President Report NOVEMBER 2016 Hi Time doesn t stand still and I have now completed two years as president in which many changes have occurred in the club. I think that most members will agree that the changes made in this time have improved work flow. I would like to welcome all new member this year to the club and thank all those members who have assisted me in the process of making this year very successful. This financial year The Faceting Room has been repainted, re arranged, air conditioned and all new machines installed. The concrete slab has been laid and secure lockers have been installed external to the building. The club input to this grant has allowed for the upgrade of the old store-room to accommodate the new saw-room and move all our saws across. The Man hours accrued by members to do the manual labor and work in kind (free work by tradesman) is all counted towards the money percentage the club must supply. This completed the Gambling Community Benefit Grant of 2015 and it was acquitted in June We received two further grants The Stronger Community Program Grant from the Federal Government through Ross Vasta, for Motors and the Cab King cabbing machine and a laptop computer. The Suburban Crime Prevention Grant from the Brisbane City Council, to install security lighting and CCTV surveillance. The Federal SCP Grant was acquitted in July This grant purchased the new Cab King Machine. It has allowed the replacement of all motors, drainage system, new LED lights (over all machines) and the upgrade of the cab-room some of this work is still a work in progress. It also gave us the ability to purchase a new upgraded laptop computer for the Treasurer. The club input to this grant is the upgrade of the benches, the LED lights and man hours for installation of equipment and upgrade of the benches. The Brisbane City Council SCP Grant is still a work in progress and must be completed in December for acquittal. This grant will see 8 external cameras for external surveillance of the building and surrounding area allowing authorities access if and when needed. The parameters of the cameras and the system were dictated to us by the Brisbane City Council. There will be 10 external LED lights activated by a photo-sensitive cell and we will install 9 security cameras for surveillance inside the club house. The club input to this grant is the internal cameras man hours for installation of the equipment. 5 Fossicking Report The fossicking group went to Laidley Creek head waters (Thomson) in search of jasper, thomsonite, zeolites, wood and of course any lost gold mines. We had 26 people and some 3 generation families on site with us. We even had to share the road at times with cattle herds. The valley was great with large cliffs and sheltered creek with some water but mostly dry. There was a lot of rock breaking going on and some very good finds with one crystal piece out of a rock wall being good and one the best pieces of mixed colour chalcedony ever found in Australia (as we are not censored i can write that). There was overall some great specimens found, some quite large. Whilst there we discussed upcoming trips and are considering the following: 1. February - looking for agate, wood & jasper around Wulkaraka and Fernvale, one day trip 2. March - Glen Innes for the rock festival (Minerama) as they will take us on private property field trips (3) over 3 days 3. April - smoky quartz and labradorite at Tabulam/Casino area, weekend trip or one day up to each person Happy Fossicking The FosSicking Committee ADVERTISING SPACE IS AVAILABLE IN THE NEWSLETTER Contact Linda at mglspublicity@gmail.com for prices.
