3 Soil, Ploughing Depth, Plot Sizes, Time Stubble Ploughing Type of Land Spring barley stubble Description of Soil: Sandy Topsoil of 35 cm in depth Well drained Not sticky when damp Analysis of Soil 76 % sand, 17 % silt, 4 % clay and 3 % humus Grassland Ploughing Type of Land Ryegrass seed stubble. Description of Soil: Sandy Deep topsoil of 35 cm in depth Well drained Not sticky when damp Analysis of Soil 76 % sand, 17 % silt, 4 % clay and 3 % humus Ploughing depth: Normal ploughing depth is 22 cm. During these Championships the proposed ploughing depth is 18 to 22 cm, but the WPO will confirm this by the head stewards at the first briefing at Vigsø Holliday Centre. Size of the plots: Conventional: 20 m x 100 m, 2000 m2 Reversible: 16/24 m x 100m. Headland 15m. Practice plots: Per country one plot on stubble, one on grassland. Size is approximately 40 m wide x 50 m long. Time: Opening split/opening furrow: maximum 20 minutes + 60 minutes stop time for judging + a maximum of 160 minutes for ploughing. Preparations before Arriving to Denmark Prepare to be broadcasted: A 6 m² big screen will show pictures and ploughing movies during the contest and you can participate! Pictures of your training at home or your stay in Denmark can be uploaded via Instagram with #VMplov2015 and a short title. 4 Passport & Visas: For up to date details on visa requirements, se Foreign Affairs Ministry site EU nationals and citizens of Switzerland, Iceland and Norway need only a passport or national Travel documents. Visas and exemptions: You may or may not need a visitor visa to visit Denmark, depending on your citizenship visa/who_needs_visa.htm Insurance: Competitors, coaches, judges and board members are required to insure themselves against personal accident, personal liability, sickness, and loss of baggage for the duration leaving home until returning home. Tractors also need to have liability insurance. Driving License: A valid driving license is required for driving tractors or cars. In Denmark, we drive on the right side of the road. Currency: In Denmark we have our own currency Danish kroner (DKK). 1 DKK = 0,13 Euro. (February 2015). To obtain Danish currency you can use bank ATM/ cash card to withdraw Danish kroners. You can pay with Visa and Master Cards in bigger shops but many smaller shops and supermarkets might not accept international credit cards. Vaccinations: Not required, not necessary. Stone for the Cairn of Peace: Size is 16 x 8 x 2 cm with the Country Name engraved in your language. If you have not already done so please courier your stone to Lene Mouritsen Møller, Agro Food Park 15, DK Aarhus N, Denmark. Electricity in Denmark: Electrical supply is 230/380 Volts. Outlets in Denmark generally accept 1 type of plug: two round pins. You may need an adapter if your appliances plug has a different shape. You may also need a combination voltage converter. Clean Equipment: All equipment and tools brought to Vestbo must be clean. If you rent or borrow any equipment or tools please make sure it is cleaned before you return the items. 5 Copenhagen Airport to Thisted Transportation will be provided to and from the airport twice during the arrival and departure dates for 5 and 10 day programme. Transportation will also be provided to and from Thisted train station on the official arrival and departure dates. Contact: Mr. Per Haslund, mobile: perhaslund@hotmail.com Mr. Per Haslund is in charge of the Marshalling Yard during the official programme. Practice Supervision: Please do not start any practice before your plots have been pointed out to you by the Practice Marshall in charge! No practice is allowed outside the designated hours or plots unless allowed by the Head Stewarts. Sighting Poles: Each competitor will be issued 3 official sighting poles. No other sighting poles are allowed. The sighting poles will be distributed at the start of the official practice and we will collect them after the competition. Draw for Practice Plots: The draw for practice plots will take place on Monday, September 28th in the evening at Vigsø Holiday Centre. Be aware that the last day of grass land practice is Thursday 1st October. Briefing of Competitors: After the draw for practice plots the competitors will be briefed with information regarding the practice fields, rules and infringements. The responsible teams for the Marshalling Yard, Practice Marshals, Plough Inspection team and Head Stewarts will be introduced. Competitors MUST attend. Coaches, Judges and Board Members are advised to attend. Safety: The prevention of all accidents, particularly those involving personal injury or damage to equipment and property is paramount. 6 Competitors need to be aware that the instructions of the Marshalling Yard Supervisor and Parade Directors MUST BE OBEYED! Competitors will be penalized if they do not comply with safety rules during practice and contest days. TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS! THE SAFETY CODE MUST BE OBEYED. ACCIDENTS DON T HAPPEN! THEY ARE ALWAYS CAUSED! National rule for tractors driving on official roads: The tractor must have a red fluorescent equilateral triangle pointing up with a red reflective border. The triangle must be placed on the tractor as showed on the photo and it can be removable. Marshalling yard: The Marshalling yard is located on the grounds of Vestbo close to the ploughing plots. It will open at set hours during the event. Tractors will be parked inside. Security staff will be on duty during the night. Workshops and the tool rooms are located in the Marshalling yard. Practice Fields: The practice fields are located very close to the contest fields at Vestbo. Pre Practice Land: The host organizing committee is assisting to arrange pre practice land for interested countries. The land for unofficial practice is very similar to the land for the contest. Stubble: A plot is 4000 m2 (= 1 acre), length of plot is 50 m to 75 m. There is no limit to the numbers of plots of stubble available per country. Grassland: A plot is 2000 m2, length of plot is 50 m to 75 m. There is a limit of two plots per country. A buffet breakfast will be served at the restaurant at Vigsø Holliday Centres each morning. Sunday September 27, 2015 we have a barbeque at Vestbo. The farewell dinner and awards ceremony will take place at the Nors Hall on Sunday October 4, Booking of accommodation before official programme: House at Holiday Centre Vigsø can be booked before 26th September: Price: 130 per day per house (2x2 persons total 4 persons). This covers one bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with two single beds and in addition there are two bunk beds that could be used for two extra persons, so that the house accommodates a total of six persons. Payment at time of booking. Booking: Ninna Staugaard, NDS@seges.dk Other accommodation: You are welcome to organize your own accommodation and travel. You can contact Vigsø Holiday Centre but expect higher prices per house than 130. Find other accommodation at The Contest Opening ceremony: At the opening ceremony all team members (competitors, coaches, judges and board members) are requested to be present in the field at the flagpole with their country flag. After a few speeches, the national flags will be raised while Der er et yndigt land (national hymn) is played. The Cairn of Peace will also be unveiled. The opening Page 10 Page 11

8 ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 8.15 am. Flag lowering ceremony: The flag lowering ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2015 after the Grasslands Competition is completed. Closing and award ceremony: The award ceremony will be part of the farewell dinner at Nors Hall. It is a gala dinner with a three course menu, live music and dance. Dress code for the gala dinner is evening wear. Plots: The head stewards will inspect the contest fields and set the plan with numbers, before the draw for plots takes place. Competitors plot numbers: Each plot will be numbered and each competitor will have a plot number to carry. Number signs: Each competitor s tractor will be fitted with signs showing the number of the competitor. Tractor Parade: Before the contest starts all competitors will be lined up for a parade. The order will be decided by the parade marshals. The competitors will be asked by the parade marshals to line up. Briefing of competitors: After the draw for plots, the competitors will be briefed about specifics around the contest, the parade, as well as answer questions. Competitors MUST attend; coaches, judges and board members are advised to attend. Stubble Ploughing: The stubble ploughing will be on Saturday, October 3, Grassland Ploughing: The Grassland Ploughing will be on Sunday, October 4, Practical Information during your stay Weather in Denmark (September-October): It can be sunny, windy (it is close to the West Coast where it often is very windy) and rainy. The temperature in September and October can vary from 10⁰C to 17⁰C. Average rainfall for September and October is from 90 to 100 mm. Check the weather forecast at Water: The water in Denmark is safe to drink from the tap. Population: The population in Denmark is 5.6 mill people. The population in Thisted is people. Tipping: Tips are always included in hotel bills, restaurant bills, taxi bills etc. in Denmark, but if you ve got a very good service, you are always welcome to pay this separately. Metric System: Denmark uses the metric system which means highway and traffic indicators are in km and km/h, gas is sold by the litre, temperature is measured in Celsius, and the electrical current is 230 volts. What to Pack: Dress in layers as the weather can change. Most dining establishments in Denmark Page 12 Page 13

9 welcome casual attire. Bring a raincoat just in case. For church service we are formally dressed and for the Gala dinner evening wear. Accommodation at Vigsø: The towels will be change on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The bed linen will be changed on Wednesday. Wi-Fi: Wi Fi is available for the WPO/Visitors at no extra cost on the grounds of Vigsø Holiday Centre. Bring your laptop or IPAD. Customs and Immigration: Visitors to Denmark require a valid passport. For information visit travel-and-residence/danish-visa-rules/ Road Safety Tips: Seat belt use is mandatory for all drivers and passengers in Denmark. The Distracted Driving Law is in effect which prohibits drivers from talking, texting or ing on a hand-held communication devices, using other electronic devices, reading, writing or personal grooming while behind the wheel. Driving Documents: If you do not have normal residence in Denmark, you may use your foreign driving license in Denmark in the following cases: The driving license is issued by an EU or EEA country (Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein) It is a foreign driving license (not issued in an EU or EEA country), issued in the Latin alphabet or accompanied by a translation in Danish, English or French. The translation must be produced by a public authority or by an organization which Page 14 has been authorized to produce it by the issuing country. It is an international driving license. In Denmark, you are allowed to drive the same types of vehicles as you are according to your valid driving license from the issuing country. Speed Limits: Highways have a speed limit of 110 or 130 km/h. Most other rural highways and country roads have a speed limit of 80 km/h. In towns the speed limit is 50 km/h. Motorists passing stopped emergency vehicles or tow trucks must drive at 60 km/h, or at the posted speed limit, whichever is slower. Tractors have a speed limit of 30 km/h. 14 Rent a tractor from a Danish Ploughman: If you want to rent a tractor by a Danish ploughman you can send your request and we will find out if we can help you. Conditions for renting a private tractor (indicative rates): Rent a tractor: 250 (start-up fee) + 40 (per day) Rent tractor and plough: 250 (start-up fee) + 60 (per day) Payment is made directly to the owner of the tractor. If the tractor has a breakdown the owner ensures that it is repaired immediately. If anything on the tractor is damaged during the renting period, the competitor must replace and / or arrange for it to be repaired.
