1 This ac cess statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. Introduction Access Statement for the M&S Company Archive Situated on the Western Campus of the University of Leeds, the Michael Marks Building, home of the M&S Company Archive and Marks in Time Exhibition is just over a mile from Leeds City Centre. The M&S Company Archive is a member of the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme. The M&S Company Archive and Marks in Time Exhibition celebrate the role M&S has played in people s lives for over 130 years. Open Monday to Friday 10am 5pm, the exhibition is free to visit, and you should allow 1-2 hours to look around. The area surrounding the Archive is flat, however, approaching the building from Leeds City Centre does involve a slight hill. The Archive is based on the ground floor with step free access. One wheelchair is available for loan free of charge. You can also enjoy the shop selling a small range of souvenirs. There are also tea and coffee making facilities available. 2 Pre-Arrival For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the Visit Us section of our website. Here you will find information on finding us by foot, public transport or car. We are 1.3 miles from Leeds railway station (a minute walk). Car Parking and Arrival We have two clearly marked parking spaces for Blue Badge Holders. These are situated 11.5m from the entrance. The area is well lit at night with street lamps and bollard lighting. There is no further parking. The area outside the Archive has a wide paved path and a dropped kerb and can be used as a drop off point. Main Entrance, Reception and Ticketing Area The main entrance is situated on the ground floor with step free, level access, throughout. The entrance is by automatic door wide enough for a wheelchair or mobility scooter. The floor surface is tiled. The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting from fluorescent lights and halogen spotlights. Wheelchair loan is available, free of charge, on request. There is a hearing loop system.

3 Marks in Time Exhibition Attraction (displays, exhibits, rides etc.) There are 2 interactive touch screen computers in the Archive that can be accessed from a sitting or standing position. There are 2 interactive ipads in the Archive, one is positioned for wheelchair users and children and the other is positioned for standing adults. Both have flexible stands to allow adjustment. We encourage people to handle and touch most objects that are not cased. In a display case we have one video playing 1950s and 1960s M&S adverts continuously. Some areas have background sounds and music playing. We have a large projection of M&S adverts playing on one wall with headphones and seating. Seating is located at various points around the exhibition. The floor surface is tiled. Lighting in the galleries is generally bright and evenly lit with overhead halogen and fluorescent lighting; however, some areas are more dimly lit to aid preservation of the exhibits. Public Toilets Public toilets are located on the ground floor with level access from the main entrance.

4 These toilets have a unisex accessible toilet with changing facilities and are described below: There are vertical rails either side of both basin and toilet. There is a horizontal rail on the side wall adjacent to the toilet. A flashing light when the fire alarm sounds. An emergency alarm pull cord. The toilets are well lit with two large halogen spotlights overhead. The flooring is non-slip tiles. There is a lever tap on the sink. There is a changing facility available. Accessible toilet Shop(s) There is a shop with a small range of souvenirs which is positioned in the main entrance area. The shop is level throughout. There are low tables accessible from a seated position. Staff can offer assistance if required.

5 Additional Information All of our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training. We welcome visitors with assistance dogs. We have a set of evacuation procedures should you require it someone will assist you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge.
