1 Welcome! Comment forms are provided for your feedback Tell us what you think! INTRODUCTION The City of Salmon Arm s O cial Community Plan (OCP) and its Parks and Recrea on Master Plan (2012) both iden fy Canoe Beach Park and Klahani Park as important community parks. Over the years, there have been numerous ideas put forward on how these important parks should be used and developed. The City is embarking on establishing direc on for enhancement of Canoe Beach and Klahani Park. This process will set direc on for design and future development of these priority park areas by establishing a comprehensive vision and implementa on framework for their development.
2 CAnoe BEach Canoe Beach Park is designated as a Community Special Purpose Park in Salmon Arm s Parks and Recrea on Master Plan. In development of the Master Plan in 2012, community members iden ed a number of top priori es for Canoe Beach Park, including expanding the park, addressing public safety issues and improving access. They also iden ed a number of poten al opportuni es, including: Shuswap Lake 8 Trail Connec ons Developing the park s west end Boat launch improvements Parking (users and boat trailers) Environmental enhancement opportuni es Feasibility of dredging or breakwater to facilitate boa ng and swimming Playground improvements (equipment upgrades) Swimming areas ( oa ng diving docks) Enhanced beach accessibility (railway crossing) Poten al for internal paths and pathways to exis ng greenways Dog beach/park improvements Addi onal ameni es and enhancements The City may also consider 75th Avenue NE Marina / Park (formerly Clare s Cove at 5391/ th Avenue NE) in the context of marina/boat launch upgrades at Canoe Beach Park. However, this is not part of the current scope but something the City may consider in future if there is community interest. There are several leased lots within the Canoe Beach study area, which will be included in the park planning and re-development program as part of this project. Lease holders have been aware for some me that the City intends to re-develop this City-owned land in the future. An archeological review of the leased land has been prepared, and the ndings indicated that there are no signi cant concerns in this area. The Klahani Park Plan is anɵcipated to create a new recreaɵonal hub by expanding the park. The park is also adjacent to the South Canoe Trails. The long term vision for this Park, as outlined in the Master Plan, includes an outdoor amphitheatre, a 4-ball diamond tournament facility, a desɵnaɵon bike skills park, and upgrades to the exisɵng sport courts and playground.
