1 International Conference on Rekindle the Logic of Women and Security in Southeast Asian Conflict 2018 General Information (Source: Background of the Conference The Center of Excellence on Women and Social Security (CEWSS) at Walailak University, southern Thailand and the Thai Studies Program, Department of Southeast Asian Studies at University of Malaya, Malaysia are jointly organizing the International Conference on "Rekindle the Logic of Women and Security in Southeast Asia". This is the conference for a collaborative writing project entitled, (Muslim) Women Activist/m in Conflict Zone in Southeast Asia funded by Walailak University and Thai Studies Program, Department of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Malaya. The project aims to generate knowledge and debate on women in conflict situations who have challenged the perceptions of human security by their states, societies, and cultures. Researches on women s and gender issues have been showed the important contributions of women in Southeast Asia holding high status. Yet gender disparities and gender-based violence in this region as well as women encountered armed conflict between states and insurgent groups are also pronounced the insecure experiences differently than men. With a focus on Southeast Asian women experiences in different types of conflict, the conference project will reexamine perspectives of women and security in Southeast Asia. It is marked from the liberal institutional to human security approaches, particularly within the context of peace and security processes.

2 Aim of the Conference 1) To provide a forum for scholars, feminists, bureaucrats, and activists to present their studies and perspectives of women, conflict, peace and security in Southeast Asia, 2) To strengthen academic network on gender, conflict and human security in Southeast Asia, 3) To document the research papers into journal, the selected papers which will be presented at the conference would be included in an edited volume with the aim of contributing new insights to the debate on women, gender, and the change of security concepts in conflict ridden societies. The volume would endeavor to generate knowledge and provide resource for preventing violence efforts. Where is WU? This fully autonomous state university under the supervision of the Minister of Education was established in Southern Thailand in Walailak University has 1,450 hectares, making it the largest campus of any university in Thailand. According to the legend, Prince Thanakuman and Queen Hem Chala brought Buddha relics to Hat Sai Kaew and built a small pagoda in 291 AD. Later on, King Si-Thamma Sokarat established the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and built a new pagoda on the same site. The present pagoda has a distinctive Sri Lankan style, measuring meters high. The top is entirely covered by pure gold. Apart from the pagoda, surrounding buildings also has important histories, especially the royal building which dated back to Ayutthaya period and the Sam Chom building where the Buddha image attired in royal wardrobe, Phra Si Thamma Sokarat, is housed. The highest peak is 1,835 meters above the sea level, making it the highest mountain of the South. Khao Luang Mountain is also the origin of many rivers and one of which flows through the Kiriwong village. Their primary occupation is small-scale fishery. Visitors can see a variety of small fishing vessels embarking throughout the community s shore. In addition, merchants and general labor servicemen can also be seen in the area. What makes Banlaem an interesting community is the way that visitors can closely observe what the community members do for a living every day.
