It s the place where dolphins fly, where fearsome moray eels lurk in coral reef caverns, where shimmering schools of exotic fish dance through underwater seascapes, and it s the only place where you will see the graceful beauty of a Pacific white sided dolphin combined with the awesome power of a three ton killer whale. It s a world-class marine-life entertainment park with eight different marine animal shows and presentations, as well as dolphin interaction programs offered each day. It s Miami Seaquarium! Miami Seaquarium, located ten minutes from downtown Miami on beautiful Virginia Key, offers visitors hours of fun and it s educational too. Across 38 landscaped acres, the marine life entertainment park provides a fun-filled mix of exhibits, shows, attractions, food and shopping opportunities that have made it a Miami institution. SHOWS The centerpiece of Miami Seaquarium is the Whale & Dolphin Stadium, home to the killer whale, Lolita and her Pacific white-sided dolphin companions. Guest of all ages will be thrilled as the natural grace, beauty and intelligence of these animals is highlighted through the interaction of animal, trainer and guest. Guests watch as Lolita and her trainer walk on water. It s behavior that must be seen to be believed!

2 Marine Showcase Page 2 Another popular show, the Flipper Dolphin Show, takes place at the Flipper Lagoon, film location for much of the popular 1960s television show of the same name. The Flipper dolphins demonstrate the grace and intelligence of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. The show includes jumps, spins, tailwalks and flips, all choreographed to music and accompanied by lively and informative narration. Audience participation segments personalize the performance for park guests. The Golden Dome, a Miami landmark designed by architect Buckminster Fuller, is home to the Sea Lion Show. This hilarious playlet allows the sea lion stars to show off their athletic and comedic abilities. The show also features Salty the Sea Lion and a cameo appearance by Salty s comical harbor seal friend. Rounding out the four major shows at Miami Seaquarium is the Top Deck Dolphin Show featuring the natural athletic ability of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. Guests thrill to the acrobatics of these agile marine mammals as they brave the splash zone for a closer look. The Top Deck dolphins can be viewed anytime throughout the day from above and below the water. Keep your eyes open you might be able to spot a baby dolphin depending on when you visit. EXHIBITS AND PRESENTATIONS Among the many attractions and exhibits at the marine life entertainment park are favorites such as Discovery Bay, an endangered mangrove habitat, home to twenty-six Nile Crocodiles, the white tailed deer, alligators and a host of native wild birds herons, egrets and ibis. A majority of the endangered sea turtles in Discovery Bay are rescued and will be released after their rehabilitation. At the Discovery Bay Presentation guests get a unique look at native wildlife as a guide describes and feeds sea turtles and crocodiles. Guests are also taught how to protect the marine-life featured, especially the endangered sea turtles.

3 Marine Showcase Page 3 At the Manatee exhibit, guests come face-to-face with Florida s state marine mammal through poolside and underwater viewing areas. The manatees featured are part of the rescue and rehabilitation program at Miami Seaquarium. The Manatee Presentation provides guests with an opportunity to learn about this fascinating and highly endangered animal and, more importantly, explains ways that guest can help save these gentle creatures of the sea. When Miami Seaquarium first opened in 1955, one of the main attractions was the Shark Channel. Today, guests are still entranced by these fearsome creatures. At the Shark Presentation, animal care specialists feed 200-pound nurse sharks while explaining about the different species of shark that exist around the world. Another favorite attraction is the Main Reef Aquarium. With its 750,000-gallon main tank teeming with reef fishes of every size, color and description. During the Reef Presentation, a diver slowly works his way around the tank allowing visitors to watch as he hand feeds the colorful tropical fish, large groupers, cobia and moray eels. This presentation is accompanied by an environmental narration. In addition to the Main Reef Aquarium, there are 26 jewel tanks that surround the Top Deck Dolphin Stadium, which present a wide variety of marine fishes, corals, anemones and other marine-life. Tropical Wings Exhibit allows park guests to have an up-close look at exotic birds that are native in tropical climates including macaws, flamingos and a variety of parrots. New to Tropical Wings is a state of the art 10,000 gallon interactive Stingray Touch Pool. Guests have the opportunity to feed Southern and Cownose stingrays and feel their gentle glide across their fingers. Throughout the day, guests may also enjoy the Sea Lion Exhibit where they can encounter a playful California sea lion. Daily feeding sessions give guests the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with these boisterous mammals.

4 Marine Showcase Page 4 PLAYGROUND Miami Seaquarium also featured a children s wet/dry playground area called Salty s Pirate Playground. The attraction consists of a two-level pirate ship, 31 feet by 27 feet, located at the center of a shark filled moat. The pirate ship, featuring water blasters, cargo nets, punch bags, padded areas and a spiral slide, is geared to entertain kids ages two through twelve. In addition to this permanent themed structure, two more play areas have been added surrounding the pirate ship; one for kids ages five through twelve; and another for children ages two through five. DOLPHIN HARBOR Miami Seaquarium opened its new dolphin interaction facility on July 19 th, 2007 called Dolphin Harbor. The new facility, home to twelve Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and the park s dolphin interaction programs, features a 12,000 square foot, 700,000 gallon dolphin pool surrounded by an 8,000 square foot facility that includes a reception area, education seminar room, changing facilities and rest rooms. Dolphin Harbor offers guests three different interaction programs. Dolphin Odyssey is a one and a half hour experience, which includes feeding, touching and learning about these magnificent animals plus the opportunity for a deep-water interaction with a dolphin. Guests must be at least 52 inches tall may participate in the Dolphin Odyssey program. The Dolphin Encounter is a program that allows guests to wade out into the pool and have a shallow water experience meeting the dolphins. The program features an educational seminar and the chance to feed and touch a dolphin as well as learn about dolphin training techniques. Dolphin Encounter participants must be at least five years of age and for those children under 9 years, an older sibling or adult must accompany the child as a participant.

5 Marine Showcase Page 5 Those wondering what it s like to work with Flipper or Salty the Sea Lion as a marine mammal trainer at Miami Seaquarium will enjoy our newest program, Trainer For A Day. Participants work side-by-side with our trainers, receive training basics and orientations for each of our marquee shows, assist with daily show set-ups, watch and critique shows, and help with other essential activities. The full-day program also includes a Dolphin Odyssey, lunch with a trainer at Flipper Lagoon, photos, souvenirs and more. Expectant mothers are not allowed to participate in dolphin interaction programs. Program fees include one day s admission to the park. Miami Seaquarium is an accredited member of the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, an international organization committed to the care and conservation of marine mammals.
