1 TOWN OF LAKESHORE PARKS Welcome! This document shows the display boards that were used for the Parks Masterplan Open Houses held on July 26, 27, and August 2, 2016 for the Town of Lakeshore. The displays include air photos of each park, pictures and a list of facilities. Once you ve viewed the boards, there is a Survey available. The survey will help you provide input on the park system in general, Neighbourhood Parks, Community Parks, Specialized Parks, & Sports fields. These displays and the survey were prepared by Bezaire & Associates, Landscape Architects & Planners. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Paul Bezaire at pbezaire@bezaire.ca. Please complete the survey and tells us what you think!
2 What is a Parks Why Do we Need it? Masterplan? A Parks Masterplan is a review of existing parks and parks facilities including: Neighbourhood Parks Community Parks A Parks Masterplan provides an opportunity to periodically assess the changing recreation needs of the community and determine if those needs are being properly met. Natural Areas/Woodlots Trails & Linkages Sports Fields It will also determine the need for new facilities based on population, community The result of the planning process is a series of recommendations that will be considered by Town Council, and if adopted will be the road map for the next decade or more. needs, and new trends in recreation. What it is and what it isn t! Why this meeting? A previous Community Services Masterplan touched on Parks and Recreation issues to It isn t an actual site plan for each park. some extent. Things won t necessarily be built exactly where and as shown. However, this is the first true Parks Masterplan to be prepared for Lakeshore. It is a masterplan or a set of design guidelines to be considered as part of future design work. This meeting is your opportunity to have input into the plan. Your opinion is important. It includes the types of ways that people will experience their parks and what s required to support that. Please tell us what you think!

4 TOWN OF LAKESHORE TRAILS MASTERPLAN GOALS AND OBJECTIVES GOALS: To develop a town-wide, non-motorized trail system by identifying, acquiring, securing access and maintaining trail opportunities, such as floodplains, railroad right-of-ways, utility line maintenance paths, rural roads right of ways, waterways and other open spaces which offer unique opportunities for the creation of lands and water-based (Blue Trails) independent trails which should be set aside for future development. To ensure access to trails on public lands and waterways and develop a system that will be safe and readily accessible. To provide an alternative mode of transportation for residents, visitors and tourists. TRAILS MASTERPLAN POTENTIAL WATER ROUTES OBJECTIVES: Provide multi-use, non-motorized recreation and leisure opportunities within the trails/trail access system, including pedestrian, equestrian, bicycle, water-based and special needs trails Develop a specific area for motorized trails, if possible. Encourage the acquisition of lands for trails and linkages to surrounding municipalities and other trails. Preserve existing historic trails including those on public lands and waterways. Support the access needs of residents with physical, mental or other challenges. 1) PIKE CREEK 2) PUCE RIVER 3) BELLE RIVER 4) RUSCOM RIVER 5) LITTLE CREEK 6) BIG CREEK 7) TREMBLEY CREEK 8) THAMES RIVER Images courtesy of Google Maps, Google Image and Town of Lakeshore
