3 3 Introduction to Nizhny Novgorod Nizhny Novgorod is an important economic, industrial, scientific, educational and cultural center of Russia, the largest transport hub and administrative center of Volga Federal District. It was founded in 1221 by the noble prince Yury Vsevolodovich at the confluence of the Оka and Volga rivers.
