1 2016 Tentative Clinic List Here are most of the clinics we expect (as always, it is subject to change) to have at this year s NERPM. We expect to add a few more before June 3-4. Some, you ll note, are still to be determined. We hope to have a tentative schedule shortly. 1. Pete McLachlan Pete hired out on the New Haven and worked through Conrail and took his camera to work each day. 2. Pierre Oliver The Wabash in Ontario, the layout Part Deux: A look at the operations and the layout currently under construction. 3. Ted Culotta Adobe Lightroom for Model Railroaders: An easily-searched software that solves the problem of filing and managing photos, drawings, articles and other reference materials. Ted has more than 10,000 items in his Lightroom catalog and can access any one in seconds. 4. Ross Jack Upgrading ready-to-run Athearn Chessie B&O GP35s and C&O Chessie SD40s with prototype specific details. 5. Ross Jack Detailing and improving ready-to-run Athearn Chessie GP40-2s with additional details and more accurate lettering, and upgrading cab lettering and pilot details on an Athearn Chessie SD Ron Giordani Modeling a Reading Trainmaster: Taking a factory finished model above and beyond. 7. Carl Rose The last years of Pullman service on the Reading 8. Mal Houck Building and modifying brass and plastic steam locomotives: Mal will discuss soldering, tools and the methods he employs to builds his HO NYO&W locomotives. The skills and techniques extend to any prototype. 9. Dave Messer Modeling Merchandise Service Boxcars: Following World War II, many of the nation's Class I railroads heavily promoted their "door-to-door" service for pickup-anddelivery of LCL merchandise by painting fleets of boxcars in brightly colored schemes, which often ran in solid trains of the same cars. Dave will discuss the prototype history of the service, which was intended to fight back against losing this business to trucking firms, and then cover modeling of these cars. 10. Kaylee Zheng An update of Kaylee s popular clinic on speakers for DCC sound.

2 11. Kip Grant How the Gulf War Got Me On the Cover of Great Model Railroads: The Story of Kip's proto-freelance 1962-era D&H Sonnyvale Branch. Kip will describe research he has done on the real life D&H Lake George Branch and offer tips on searching for what once was. 12. Jim Schweitzer How a chief dispatcher works on the prototype and how it applies to railroad models. 13. Jim Dufour Creating Scenery and Details along the B&M's Cheshire Branch: Jim will demonstrate techniques he uses. 14. Irv Thomae Vermont's Montpelier & Wells River RR: Milk, Granite, and Small-Town Life 15. David Olesen CSX Allegheny Sub in HO: Concepts, Compromises and Construction. 16. Bill Gill Weeds Along the Tracks. Weeds Along the tracks looks at ways to model a few common varieties of weeds found along tracks and other areas. 17. Bruce Harrison Research methods and lessons learned while working to recreate the Southern Railway's Monroe Yard. 18. Dave Ramos Update on the New York Harbor Railroad: Adding staging to an existing layout 19. Craig Bisgeier Scratch-Building from a Photo: Planning and building a DL&W coal dealer model from a single 1920s valuation photo. 20. George Barrett Extra Special Detailing of HO Scale Truck Models: George will describe techniques he uses when building HO scale trucks, including painting and tools he uses. 21. Mike Rose Conrail Lehigh Line Layout Update. Mike will talk about the progress and changes made to his Conrail Lehigh Line layout, set in His presentation will include plenty of pictures and descriptions of techniques and include all progress made since his last presentation here in Ron Poidomani Taking your model to the next level: Focus will be techniques on craftsman kits that I use that add more realism to the overall model. Some of the areas I would like to cover would be layering colors, lifting boards, painting castings both plastic and metal, the use of LEDs, washes, dry brushing and mortar washes. 23. Andy Rubbo Modeling the Pennsy Under Wire: modeling the right of way, rolling stock and other PRR-specific details

3 24. Jered Slusser Modeling the Penn Central/Conrail X72 boxcar: A study of prototypes and paint schemes, and the adaptation of the classic Life Like boxcar in creating a modern prototype model. 25. Bill Schaumburg Visiting the American Rock Salt Co. mine and its railroad operations. 26. Steve Cryan Where Rails Meet the Sea: The railroad tugboats of New York Harbor 27. Marty McGuirk Modeling the October Scene: Marty will share the trials and tribulations of modeling the landscape, colors, and texture of believable New England autumn scenery. 28. Don Valentine Hand s on clinic: Converting an Accurail single sheathed boxcar into a Canadian National or Grand Trunk Western 1 1/2 door car. (Limited number of spots.) 29. Tony Koester Granger Railroading: Tips for modeling flatlands railroads crops, terrain, motive power, interchanges, fast freights, dark railroads, etc. 30. John Garafalo (Friday night) At the Movies with T.J. Donahue: St Louis and Chicago in 1969, New Haven and Penn Central in 1968 and Bill Badger Manchester Dorset and Granville Railroad: a railroad built to haul granite for construction of the New York Public Library. (Afternoon Friday or Saturday. Willing to present twice.) 32. Chip Syme How a railroader details and operates his model railroad 33. Chip Syme Conrail: Through the eyes of an employee 34. Ted Shasta Control Systems and Panels. Ted Shasta will demonstrate the application of readily-available electronics to control turnouts and the use of laser-etched acrylic for modular control panels. Ease of construction, maintenance and use will be highlighted. If time permits Ted will also demonstrate the use of distributed power for DCC. 35. Ted Shasta Getting the Roadbed Right. Ted Shasta will demonstrate the approach he uses to build prototypically-correct roadbed and the benefits of doing so. 36. Jeff Hanke (Saturday morning) Layout Planning: A comprehensive look at how to begin a railroad, including scale selection, prototype vs. freelancing, research, and drawing a plan. 37. Jeff Hanke (Saturday morning) Creating a prototype locomotive roster.

Tom Nanos (Saturday night) Changing Hues - the transformation of FEC 100 to PW Painting a locomotive is a fairly straightforward process - not all that much different from what modelers perform. Strip, prep, prime, mask, finish and decals. In this show, we'll take an inside look at how the Providence & Worcester Railroad repainted their first former Florida East Coast EMD SD70M-2 into the P&W livery. 40. Sudro Brown JMRI DecoderPro 41. Chris will talk about how he chose to model the New Haven Railroad's Connecticut Valley Branch and will discuss prototype locations, equipment and structure choices, how he fit it in his available space, and how he operates it. 46. Rick Abramson The New Haven s East Bridgeport Yard, selectively compressed in HO: Rick will describe how he conceived and constructed the yard on his layout, including pouring of streets, scenery, track and of course... the catenary. 47. Neil Schofield Neil will describe construction of the town of Bradford, Vt. on his layout and the progress he s made in a year. He will also talk about quick scenery techniques that allowed him to complete scenes in a matter of weeks rather than months. 48. Jay Held Erie/EL East from Croxton to Jersey City/Weehawken 49.
