1 Your Guide to Metro NEW Metro system map (effective ) Station locations and parking Guide to points of interest Connecting to Metrobus and other local buses Have you switched to SmarTrip yet? SmarTrip is the convenient rechargeable farecard. Use it to pay for fares on Metrorail and Metrobus. Paying your fare with a SmarTrip card costs less than paying with cash (20 on Metrobus and $1 on Metrorail). Store up to $300 in value on your card. The value on a registered SmarTrip card is protected from loss. Add value or a pass to your SmarTrip card from our Web site. Or go online to find out how much value is on your card, see where and when you used it last or report it lost or stolen. SmarTrip cards are sold at Metro stations, Metro sales offices or online at wmata.com /12 wmata.com TTY

Last trains leave many stations before midnight (between 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday). Holiday hours vary. Finding the Metro station If you re driving, look for the large Metro signs to direct you to the station. Tall brown columns with a large M identify the station s entrance. Color stripes on the column show the lines that serve the station. Metrorail accessibility Elevators and escalators connect station entrance levels with the train platforms. If an elevator is out-of-service, shuttle bus service is available on request. To find out which elevators are out-of-service: Log onto wmata.com and check the service status box on the home page. Call for a list of out-of-service equipment. Check the white boards at each station manager s kiosk. Shady Grove station Red Line northwestern terminus From southbound I-270 in Maryland Take exit 9, I-370 East. Glenmont station Red Line northeastern terminus From Randolph Road Take Georgia Ave. north to station. From north of Randolph Road Take Georgia Ave. or Layhill Rd. south to station. If lots are full, continue south on Georgia Ave. to Wheaton station where there are several parking garages nearby. Greenbelt station Green Line northern terminus From southbound I-95 or southbound Columbia Pike (Rt. 29) in Maryland Take the Capital Beltway east (towards Andrews AFB) to exit 24. Follow ramp to station. EFFECTIVE BEGINNING New Carrollton station Orange Line eastern terminus From southbound Baltimore- Washington Parkway (I-295) in Maryland Take the Capital Beltway south (towards Andrews AFB) to exit 19B, John Hanson Highway (Rt. 50) west. Bear right on ramp to Garden City Dr. to station. From westbound John Hanson Highway (Rt. 50) in Maryland Take right hand ramp adjacent to I-495N exit. Go over the Capital Beltway onto Garden City Dr. If lots are full, take Rt. 50 west to Landover Road (Rt. 202) and park at Landover station. Fares are based on when and how far you travel. Fares (and travel times) are posted in Metro stations on farecard machines, on the information kiosk and beneath the large Metrorail map. Each person must have his or her own farecard, SmarTrip card or pass to ride. Save $1.00 on the Metrorail fare by using a SmarTrip card instead of a paper farecard. Farecards and Metrorail passes are available at farecard vendors in the stations. Metrobus Metrobus operators do not carry cash. Unless you use a SmarTrip card, pass or token, you must have exact change to pay your fare. Fares are posted on the farebox. Save 20 on the Metrobus fare when you use a SmarTrip card instead of cash. Special fares Two children age four and under ride free with a paying customer. One Day Metrorail Passes can save you money and are sold in stations. Senior citizens and people with disabilities with a valid Metro ID or Medicare card and photo ID pay one-half the regular Metrorail or Metrobus fare, and transfers are free. Check the electronic signs in stations. Waiting for the train Signs in the station tell you which train platform to use for your destination. Senior and disabled discounted rail farecards are sold at Metro sales offices Anacostia Transit Center, Metro Center, Pentagon Transit Center, Metro headquarters at 600 5th St. NW, Northern Bus Division and at more than 300 area locations. Go online to wmata.com or call for details. Please stand behind the bumpy tiles along the platform s edge. Electronic signs in stations and flashing lights along the platform edge signal a train s arrival. Boarding the train Check the destination of the train posted above the side windows. Stand clear of the train car doors and let riders get off before you board. Step over the small gap between the platform and the train. Listen for the chimes that signal the car doors are closing. If the train is full, step back and wait for the next train. Unlike elevator doors, train doors do not reopen automatically. Parking Most end-of-the-line stations near the Capital Beltway (I-495/I-95) have the largest parking lots. On weekends, it s usually easy to find a space to park, but on weekdays, many lots fill up early. Parking at Metro-operated lots is FREE on weekends and federal holidays. On weekdays, thre is a small fee. You can pay with a credit card at most Metro-operated lots. Cash is only accepted at metered parking spaces. Metrobus Hours of service Schedules vary by route. Most routes run every day. Frequency between buses may change between rush hours and all other times. Where to wait for the bus Stand at designated Metrobus stops. Check the bus destination before you board. The route number and destination are displayed above the windshield or on the boarding side of the bus. Vienna/Fairfax-GWU station Orange Line western terminus From eastbound I-66 in Virginia Take exit 62 to Nutley St. (Rt. 243) south to station. SmarTrip cards A SmarTrip card is the easy way to pay your fare on Metrorail, Metrobus and all regional bus systems, and to pay to park at Metro-operated lots. And it saves you money each time you use it instead of cash on Metrobus or a paper farecard on Metrorail. Store up to $300 in value on a SmarTrip card. Purchase SmarTrip cards at CVS/pharmacy and Giant; in selected Metro stations; at Metro sales offices at Metro Center, the Pentagon Transit Center and Metro Headquarters (600 Fifth St. NW); and online at wmata.com. Transfers When transferring from bus-to-rail or rail-tobus, Metro (and all regional bus systems) offers a 50 discount on the second trip. Transfers from bus-to-bus are free as long as the second bus does not cost more than the first bus. If it does, you must pay the difference. IMPORTANT: To get the discounted or free transfer, you must pay your fare with a SmarTrip card. If you pay with cash or a pass, you will not be able to get the discounted or free transfer. The transfer period is two hours between the start of the first trip and the start of the second trip.
