Singapore Botanic Gardens The Botanic Gardens are a lovely, peaceful way to start your morning, or to retreat to if you need a break from the big tourist spots without venturing too far out of the city. Take 30 minutes for a short wander, or a couple of hours to check out the Na onal Orchid Garden, have a coffee in one of the cafes/restaurants, or just lie down and enjoy the peace and quiet! The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 158-year-old tropical garden located at the fringe of Singapore's Orchard Road shopping district. 10 GENERAL TIPS Health The severity of the haze varies from year to year, but is at its worst during September. In 2016, the haze only lasted a few days, but in 2015 the hazy condi ons persisted through most of November. During years with moderate haze, the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) will read around , which is already an unhealthy range. In years where the haze is worse, the PSI is typically 200+ and even occasionally exceeds 300. When the pollu on levels are that high, the Singapore government recommends that even healthy adults stay indoors as much as possible, so definitely not an ideal time for sightseeing. Money and cost Singapore is very strict about what is given duty-free concession. Alcohol is limited based on what you re buying; for example, you can buy one liter each of spirits, wine and beer, or two litres of wine and one liter of beer, but you can never exceed one liter of spirits. There is zero duty-free allowance on cigare es and tobacco products and, if caught bringing cigare es from other countries, you poten ally face very s ff fines. Safety and security Singapore is very strict about drug possession and being caught with even small amounts will land you in hot water with the authori es.
