1 Disclaimer: While the data comes from official AERC records the analysis and conclusions below are not officially sanctioned by the AERC. How Fast Are We Riding? In this study we analyze the speed at which we are riding and what regions and rides are producing the fastest ride times. We do this on a national basis and a regional basis. On the regional analysis we base "speed" on three different criteria; mean (normalized to distance) ride time of all the finishers of a ride, mean ride time of the top 5 finishers and the ride time of the winning rider. All endurance rides (50 miles or more) were considered in the 2002 ride season. The ride times were normalized to distance in minutes per mile so that different distances could be compared on an equal basis. Of particular interest it is not always the 50 mile rides that are the fastest. For example in the CT region, the Frigid Digit 100 was the fastest CT ride based on mean ride time and the 7 th fastest based on mean ride time of the top 5 finishers. For the national analysis we only use the first two criteria. Table I gives a summary on how fast we are going by region.
