2 Description: The six acre Mathilda Welmering Park is named for two streets that are near this neighborhood park in South County. The park entrance is off of Mathilda Avenue and Welmering Avenue is the name of the cul-de-sac street directly south of the park. Facilities in this park include a ball field, basketball court, pavilion, restroom, playground and spray pad. The park property was purchased in 1960 and opened in The playground was rebuilt in View of park entry sign. Play area and walkway showing signs of runoff from erosion. Site Observation Summary: Park facilities look aged and worn out. Graffiti and vandalism an issue at this park. (Picnic tables, play equipment & lights) Split rail fence is deteriorated. Erosion issues near play equipment creating silt on safety surface. Spray pad lacks remote timer. No sidewalk to ball fields. Rust on back stop fence. Drinking fountain at ball field is old and not working. Some asphalt paths are not handicapped accessible. Parking lot fills up when pavilion is being rented by a group. Some site furnishings need to be replaced. Erosion issues at drainage ditch. Pedestrian bridge crossing ditch is narrow. Horse shoe pit in poor condition. St. Louis County Parks Master Plan Page 2
