1 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) January 16, 1961 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS EXCEPT INTERBANK AND U. S. GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and U. S. Government accounts, as reported by banks in 344 leading centers for the month of December aggregated $257 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $725 billion or 2.4 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 2.1 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the increase was 4.1 per cent; and at 337 other centers it was 1.8 per cent.
