1 G.6 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) June 15, 1961 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS EXCEPT INTERBANK AND U. S. GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand, deposit accounts, except interbank and U. S. Government accounts, as reported "by banks in 3H leading centers for the month of May aggregated $269 "billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $776 billion or 10.1 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 19.I per cent compared with the corresponding three -months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the increase was 7-2 per cent; and at 337 other centers it was 3.0 per cent.
