The village enables guests to learn about the artistry of rural craftsmen that keep the traditions of Sri Lanka alive. 14 Location Approximately 230 kilometres south of Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo, Hambantota borders the sacred city of Kataragama and the Udawalawe National Park, and extends along the southern coast. Formerly known as Magampura, the city played a vital role in building the nation and nurturing its Buddhist culture. The city sees on average roughly 1,050 millimetres (41 in) of precipitation annually. Average temperatures in Hambantota change little throughout the year, ranging from 26.3 C (79.3 F) in January to 28.1 C (82.6 F) in April and May. Language: Sinhala 74% (official and national), Tamil 18% (national), other 8%. English is commonly used in government and spoken competently by about 10%. 15 Access The resort can be reached by air; guests are advised to fly to Hambantota s Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, which is 35 kilometres away. Alternatively, the resort can be accessed by car from Colombo s Bandaranaike International Airport with a distance of 240 kilometres. Visa: An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is required for most visitors to Sri Lanka. On the basis of reciprocity, citizens of Singapore, Maldives and Seychelles are exempt from the requirement of obtaining an ETA to visit Sri Lanka.
