10 KIHAVAH TRAVEL NOTES FOR A SEAMLESS JOURNEY Landscape The island of Kihavah Huravalhi, part of the Baa Atoll, is one of over a thousand islands that make up the Indian Ocean s Republic of the Maldives. One of only 200 inhabited islands in the nation, this pear-shaped coral island boasts powdery white sands, lush coconut groves, and a crystal clear lagoon with a nearby reef teeming with marine life and the occasional whale shark. People The Maldivian people descended from ancient seafaring settlers from across the Indian Ocean trading route, a diverse blend of South Asians and Muslim Arabs. While the predominant language is Dhivehi, English is understood by most. Arrival Visitors to the Maldives automatically qualify for a 30-day visa on arrival provided they have a valid travel document, return ticket and confirmed resort reservation. Malé International Airport is served by a wide array of flights from major airports in Asia, as well as an increasing number of charters from Europe.
