4 Page 4 of 14 Day 1 Welcome to Leticia The capital city of the Amazonas province, Leticia is the largest city for hundreds of kilometers and yet still looks and feels very much like the small frontier town it is. Located on the Amazon River where Colombia, Brazil and Peru meet, Leticia is some 800km from the nearest Colombian highway, but despite this distance it's a bustling, thoroughly Colombian place, though Brazilian and Peruvian influences can be felt throughout the town too. Leticia Leticia, AMAZONAS, CO 10:04 AM - SA Pacific Time Arrive to Leticia Airport Remember that in Bogota the airport authorities will ask you for the yellow fever vaccine certificate before boarding the plane to Leticia-Amazonas. After 2 hours flay from Bogotà you will arrive to Airport Vazquez Cobo in Leticia. Remember that you must pay the tourist tax for every traveller ($ pesos or $14.40 US) to the local airport autority in Leticia. Our team in Leticia will pick up you in the Airport for transport you to your house during one week.

Situated near to Leticia City, so you can be lulled by its peaceful sound as you go to sleep. You ll be welcomed by the friendly community here as they teach you their local customs and knowledge of the rainforest, including the traditional use of medicinal plants. You ll work alongside them to help protect and restore the indigenous trees and improve the community facilities. Accommodation style: Bungalow with bunk beds. (6 beds). Phone signal and WI-FI signal: Limited. 11:30 Introduction Talk Amazon Volunteer Program 12:00 PM - SA Pacific Time - 2 hr Lunch Freshwater fishes are the main component of the Amazonian cuisine. There are dozens of exceptionally tasteful species of fish that are usually served grilled or fried. Fish stewed with Fariña is also typical. Arepas (pastries made of a variety of cassava flour) are also a basic food in the region. Besides fish and yuca, the other typical food are the local fruits that are unique flavour and names: Arza, Caimo, Copoazu, Umari, Carambola, Cayarana are some good examples.

The visit begins at the Amazonian Man Ethnic Museum, where there s a collection of objects and utensils used by indigenous cultures from this region. Continue to the city s parks and wander its streets with plenty of time to browse handicraft shops and food carts. The visit continues to neighboring and bordering Brazilian City Tabatinga, listen and learn some Portuguese, appreciate Brazilian architecture, buy world-famous Azaleia sandals, and visit the Chocolate house. From Tabatinga s pier see the border-town of Santa Rosa, Peru. Return to Santander Park in Leticia at 5:30 because is amazing to see hundreds of parrots that came to different places, and tweet so loud in the same trees. 6:30 PM - SA Pacific Time - 1 hr Dinning It's time for a much-needed shower and you enjoy a hearty Amazonic dinner, swapping stories about the best wildlife sightings and practice the colourful Colombian Spanish phrases they've been teaching you. Tired and fulfilled after the day's achievements, you re on the way to bed but take a moment to stand in awe of the amazing starscape and the milky way like you ve never seen it before. You hit your pillow for an early night, in preparation for the new adventures and volunteer experiences that tomorrow will bring.

After a typical Colombian- Amazonic breakfast with the team, you organise your escential equipment for a confortable walk in your 1º volunteer day. 8:00 AM - SA Pacific Time - 4 hr Activities Volunteer for Family Reforestation-The impact you will make: As the community develops, they cut down more trees to sell the wood and have spaces for crops. As well as reforesting with frutal trees, we will be reforesting with medicinal plants, and aiming to engage the younger generations in learning about these and the other plants that surround them. During the wet season, part of the jungle is flooded allowing tourists to travel by boat through the Yahuarcocha lakes, which offers a unique encounter with nature. A magical setting You will be able to paddle through the flooded jungle in a magical environment, surrounded by rubber trees, red cedar, mahogany, capirona and the great renaco with its aerial roots. Diversity of wildlife This slow journey through the jungle gives countless opportunities to see birds (herons, tuqui-tuqui, needle ducks, kingfisher, arrendajos, oropéndolas, eagles, hawks) mammals (sloths, pink and grey dolphins) reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and a range of plants without precedence such as the famous Victoria Regia (the world s largest lotus).

14 Page 14 of 14 Information & Documents TRAVEL DOCUMENTS & RELATED ITEMS Visa If you are planning on staying in Colombia for 90 days or less like tourist, then a visa will not be required (with the exception of some small African and Asian countries). If you plan on staying in Colombia for more than 90days, you may be required to obtain a visa. Passport A passport will be required to travel to Colombia. Make sure you make copies of this before you leave home. Leave one copy with family at home and take one spare copy with you for your travels. Currency The Peso is the official currency of Colombia and we recommend checking the most current exchange rate before your departure. Most locations in Colombia will also accept United States Dollars (USD.) Visa and Mastercard is accepted in Colombia. If you intend to avoid expensive and tourist-heavy places or use public transportation, you will need Pesos. USD can be exchanged at any bank. During orientation, you will be shown which banks are best to use. Baggage After you book your program, you will receive a detailed packing list with your departure packet. In general, light, synthetic, breathable, quick-drying fabrics provide the most comfort. Long sleeves, a sun hat and long pants are advised to protect from bugs and sun. The lightweight convertible pants that zip off into shorts are a great option as you can convert them to shorts during the heat of the day and back to full length when the bugs are at their worst in the evening. Unlike most destinations, you will probably want to plan a separate outfit for each day. Clothes dry very slowly in the jungle and you may not want to re-wear the perspiration soaked shirt of the previous day! Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent (not aerosol), as well as any personal toiletries that you need as it's difficult to find replacements at these remote lodges.
