3 Area Overview: The town of Hollister, California lies at the north end of San Benito County, is the county seat and has approximately 36,500 residences. The town was incorporated in 1872 and originally built around farming and ranching (cattle, hay, grapes, orchards, and some row crops). While the City is growing rapidly, it still maintains a small town charm, with good neighborhoods, fantastic weather, and friendly people. Hollister has a historic downtown and neighborhoods dotted with homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. These homes provide a look into the past with their compelling and diverse architecture. Life is a bit slower here, away from the crowds and yet still plenty to see and do in town or within an hours drive. Outdoor concerts, Hollister Air Show, Renaissance Fair, nearby historic San Juan Bautista, wine tasting along the San Benito County Wine Trail, good restaurants, and farmer s markets are just a few worthwhile activities to take in. The City boasts one of the few executive airports in the entire country. For those who love the outdoors, Hollister is a jewel. The City is locatd in a small agricultural valley with beautiful hills to the West and East. Back country roads, with little traffic are just outside the City lines and provide for some of the best biking routes you will ever find. For hikers, it doesn t get any better than Pinnacles National Park. The 30 miles of trails winde through spires of ancient lava and offer breathtaking views. For golf enthusiasts, two 18 hole courses await. Ridgemark Golf Club and Resort is a little gem, located between the mountains and foothills of the Gabilan and Diablo Ranches at the south end of the City. The club offers lodging, dining, tennis and event faciliites. San Juan Oaks Golf Club, located just outside of Hollister, is an 18 hole Fred Couples Signature Design Golf Course. The club aslo has event facilities to accommodate 300 guests and has full catering services.
