5 Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Visits the Americas Society Gallery September 22, 2009 On September 22 Colombian President Álvaro Uribe visited the Americas Society gallery, where he was given a private tour of the exhibition Fernell Franco: Amarrados [Bound], featuring work by Colombian photojournalist Fernell Franco. During his visit, President Uribe honored AS/COA President and CEO Susan Segal with the Cruz de San Carlos for her many years of support of Colombia. 6 President Michelle Bachelet Chile September 23, 2009 In recognition of the extraordinary social and economic progress achieved under her leadership, Americas Society honored Chilean President Michelle Bachelet with the Gold Insigne, the organization s highest honor. The Gold Insigne is awarded to democratically elected heads of state from the Western Hemisphere who promote awareness of the cultural, social, and political realities of the region and greater understanding among the peoples and nations of the Americas.
