You will then be transferred to your hotel in Miraflores. You will have a short prebriefing and you will overnight at your comfortable hotel. DAY 2 LIMA City Tour of Lima You will be picked up from your hotel in Miraflores. We will have a tour through Lima s streets and plazas. Starting at Parque del Amor in Miraflores, with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, and then we are heading to the Huaca Pucllana, ceremonial center of the Lima culture, for a panoramic view. After this, we go on to the Main Square where the Government Palace and the Town Hall are located. We will visit the Cathedral and explore the Santo Domingo Convent, along which corridors Saint Martin de Porres and Saint Rosa de Lima used to walk around in 17th century, and where their remains rest today. Afterwards you will be dropped off at your hotel where you will ovenight. Our tour will begin in the colonial quarter of San Lazaro from here we will head to the Carmen Alto viewpoint where we will admire the beautiful landscapes of agricultural terraces and the 3 volcanoes that surround the city: Misti, Chanchani and Pichu- Picchu. We will then continue to Yanahuara known for it s Andalusia Style Church and surrounded by sillar stone arches. We will then visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina, an impressive religious monument that had been closed from the public for 400 years, its narrow streets, plazas and gardens similar to those of Seville or Granada. We will then make our way to the Main Square, here we will see the Cathedral and the arches that surround the plaza. You will visit a church founded in the 17th century by the Jesuits. 3 DAY 5 AREQUIPA/ COLCA Day 1 Colca Canyon You will be picked up from your hotel in Arequipa and we will set off to the spectacular Colca Valley going up the foothills of Chanchani volcano and admiring the Misti and Pichu-Pichu Volcanoes. We will then cross the vicuñas reservation of Pampa Cañahuas where we can see them running free in the high Andes. We will stop for lunch on the way to your hotel. Here we will admire the Condors soaring around us, these huge Andean birds on the brink of extinction are a symbol of the Andes Mountain Range. The views here are amazing and allow us to appreciate the canyons depth, considered as one of the deepest in the world. We will then visit the towns of Maca and Yanque. We will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then you will be dropped off at your hotel, here you will have an opportunity to relax and enjoy the hotel and its surrounds. 4 DAY 9 CUSCO City Tour of Cusco You will be picked up from your hotel, for your walking tour of Cusco. We will start at the Koricancha Temple one of the most important buildings in the city. It was one of the most important centers of worship to the Sun God of the Incas that was converted into a Spanish convent after the arrival of the Spanish. We will then visit the wonderful Cusco Cathedral built between 1560 and We will then visit the San Pedro Markets where we will appreciate the local flavors and learn about the produce. After your tour you will be dropped off at your hotel. 5 DAY 12 CUSCO/ PUERTO MALDONADO Day 1 Reserva Amazonica Jungle Lodge You will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival into Puerto Maldonado you will be greeted and you will check in. You will take a 45 minute motorized canoe ride along the Madre de Dios River till we reach Reserva Amazonica Lodge. A short briefing and you will settle into your cabana, then enjoy a delicious lunch. You will meet with your guide and you will have the option of choosing from 13 different excursions available at the lodge. On your first day, we recommend a guided walk along the Trail system, into the Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica natural area, where you will discover the Amazon Basin. This trail offers an excellent introduction to the forest environment, winding past impressive trees such as the staggeringly tall kapok, and the strangely beautiful strangler fig, offering great opportunities for birdwatching and observing exotic insects. We also recommend on the first night our Twilight River excursion a guided afternoon ride by motorized canoe on the Madre de Dios River. Witness the transformation from a diurnal to a nocturnal world: animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially adapted to the night. As you enjoy their paradise, you will learn about their habits, while you search for nightjars (Hydropsalis climacocerca), owls, capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) and up to three different caiman species. Enjoy dinner served in the dining room from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Afterwards, you may retire early to your own cabaña. Day 2 Reserva Amazonica Jungle Lodge This morning you may visit the Lake Sandoval excursion into the Tambopata National Reserve. Glide in a dugout canoe, across a beautiful, mirror like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) as well as red howler monkeys (Alouatta seniculus), red bellied macaws (Orthopsittaca manilata), anacondas (Eunectes murinus), side-neck turtles (Podocnemis unifilis), and black caimans (Melanosuchus niger). Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, consider the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Ascending the first tower, 95 feet (29 mts) above the forest ground, you begin your encounter with the treetop realm. For more than a quarter of a mile, you will literally walk through the rainforest canopy on a suspension bridge network linking eight observation platforms. During this hour and-a-half expedition, be on the lookout for colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and sloths. If you wish you may extend your excursion and appreciate the sunset from one of the towers. The excursion finishes by returning to the lodge. Once at the lodge, enjoy the daily nature presentation at the Ecocenter. Dinner. Many of these can be seen at the Butterfly House, a showcase for the variety, beauty and adaptability of these fascinating insects.
